Dummer Boy encore

When I moved to The Netherlands summer of 2019, there followed a few months without most of my sewing gear. Fortunately I had traveled with a carry-on machine, my basic supplies and a few projects, so that I could keep creating in the in-between time. That’s how my Drummer Boy Dresdens quilt came to be stitched at three different rental houses!

It was a great project for a time of transition - easy, scrappy and relentlessly cheery. Plus, it didn’t hurt that I had a pint-sized beam of sunshine by my side most days too!

Well, February is a good time for rainbows and sunshine, right? Or isn’t that all the time, haha? In any case I have decided to take advantage of my turn to lead the charity quilt with my quilting bee to make this quilt again.

It’s also pretty relaxed that I have already created a pattern for this quilt, so that’s easy to share with my bee-mates and easy to get started myself!

First, wrangling those scraps. In to time at all I had a pile of Dresden blades and low volume backgrounds at the ready. My color scheme is “all colors in” and I was able to cut into a lot of multicolored prints too. Satisfying.

This block is sewn with one simple pieced curve per block, after which the quarter Dresdens are appliquéd onto the background. I sew it all by machine and don’t even use pins, so the whole process is quite relaxed.

Ta da! My first batch of happy scrappy Drummer Boy Dresdens! I love their bright, positive energy so much that I think I will leave them on my wardrobe doors for the day. Yay!

Happy weekend all. xoxo
