Improv Quilts
I am quite happy with this finish! I find it pretty irresistible with its bright colors and playful, improv setting. Check out these summer vibes! It captures the slightly reckless, high-energy state of summer. Like waves crashing on the seashore or butterflies flitting over bright blooms.
I am so, so happy with how Pastelly turned out! This couldn’t have happened if I had forced myself to finish the project before I was ready and before my mood matched the energy and colors of the work. These days I am feeling so much lighter, and this quilt is a manifestation of that joy.
This is Kale and Carrots because the colors and energy remind me of a late summer garden. The big, leafy greens are bolting in every direction and the earthy orange carrots are ready to be plucked. Everything is a bit topsy turvy, but in a healthy sort of way that indicates life and abundance.
When I make a quilt like this, I become more free to be myself. I choose to put myself out there in a tangible way. It takes courage to even try to make something that embodies strong feelings…
It looks like I’ve finished three quilts so far this year, but this one is definitely my favorite. It was such fun to make, from start to finish. What made it so? Let us count its delightful ways.

Scrap Quilts
Ta da, my finished Scrap Cabin quilt! She’s bright and warm and made from so many, many scrap fabric strips, folks. It truly boggles my mind that I have this many scraps, given how many scrap quilts I sew. Where are they coming from?
But the quilt! I love that too. It turned out great, if I do say so myself. I already had faith in it as a scrap quilt, but the green and black sashing pushed it way beyond ordinary. I imagine that it will bring such a cozy, joy to someone’s home.

Simple Quilts
Hurrah, for another Rainbow Over Head! This sweet-sized quilt would be perfect for that baby or toddler in your life OR to hang up on a wall where you sew. She’s 41” square and 100% made with love and light.
Last weekend I visited a park on the other side of town and was mesmerized by the tall, blooming rhododendrons. When I returned yesterday to photograph this quilt, I was so pleased with how the flowers and myriad shades of green coordinate with my latest finish. How lucky! How wonderful. And, yes, I am in love with this quilt!

Angled Quilts
I love my Crossweave quilt design with its playful X’s and pointy diamonds. And then to sew it in fabrics by my very favorite designer, Anna Maria Parry; well, that was the cherry on top!

Curvy Quilts
My Hourglass Curves quilt is sewn with drunkard’s path blocks. It’s straightforward curved piecing, which suited these bridal gown silk scraps just fine. The silk is crisp like quilting cotton, but lightweight as silk will be.
Red-orange-yellow-green-indigo-violet or ROYGIV, that’s the rainbow and she never gets old. I have recreated my Dear Dottie quilt as Dear Roy. He is a square-format color wheel quilt made up of delightful, scrappy polka dots. And I love him, love him, love him!
It is time to send Plum Pudding out into the world. She has never been used. She’s just been waiting, waiting. And perhaps now is her time. If you take her home, be sure to appreciate all her very special prints. I didn’t skimp on this one! And remember that life goes full circle from dark to light, from dark to light. So long as we are alive, there is always possibility for joy if we keep our hearts open.
How to write about this quilt? I do absolutely love how it came out. LOVE! This was one of those enchanted maker journeys. Designing the quilt and choosing the colors/fabrics was more a process of recognizing the inevitable than planning the ideal. Everything about it feels absolutely meant to be. And yet.
What a quick and easy-going project. Not too many choices since I followed the look from the pattern cover, plenty of certainty and a satisfying, predictable result. I used the Sew Kind of Wonderful pattern called Happy Together and colored it in with Forestburgh fabrics by Heather Ross and Windham’s Ruby + Bee solids.
Ta da, Painted Windmills on a beautiful autumn day! These colors remind me of a folksy, vintage palette that you might find in a quaint European village. Brandon, Elora and I set out to photograph this quilt on a fittingly damp and windy Dutch day.

Applique Quilts
The happy, sunny vibe of our this charity bee quilt is just perfect for this moment! After the most amazing, unusually warm weekend, it feels like everyone is smiling in The Netherlands.
The graceful curves of the orchid flowers remind me of curved doors and windows. The geometric border with its on point squares and fancy corners remind me of the endless array of unique stained glass. And the center medallion imparts a timeless elegance that sets the tone for the whole quilt.
Ta da - a finished Wild Oranges quilt, again. This second rendition turned out just as beautiful as the first, in my opinion. I’m delighted that following the quilt pattern really did reproduce the play of shapes and value in such a satisfactory manner. It has depth and sparkle. Hooray!
Sometimes, and it’s rare, you begin with a fuzzy idea and end up somewhere that is even more perfectly delightful than you could have predicted. That magic comes to life in the process - listening to and responding to the fabric and the colors and the patchwork shapes so that the finished piece is a sweet melody of multiple artistic voices.

Quilt-as-you-go
Vibrant colors, gorgeous bouquets, dainty dogwood quilting, sweet snails and lace moths - I absolutely adore this quilt! It teams with life and joy and femininity.
Gosh I love this quilt! She was so fun and fast to make. I tried to work mostly with softer tones, while allowing for strong contrast in the improv crosses. The combination is more spunky than sweet, more wild than cultivated and positively buzzing with island energy.
