drumming up Dresdens
Don’t you love how one finish leads to another? I love the whole process of quilt-making, from start to finish. Whenever I complete a quilt, as recently with Positivities, the excitement of getting to work on the next quilt takes hold.
That next quilt is my Drummer Boy Dresdens quilt, which I am making collaboratively with members of do. Good Stitches. All the blocks from my bee mates have arrived and are up on the design wall. Yesterday I added blank, low-volume squares where I would like new blocks to land. The final layout will be an 8 x 9 grid. With 6” finished blocks, that’s a modest 48” x 54” lap quilt. Perhaps it is a bit on the small side, but then that can be useful to a charity.
And then the scraps! I do love how my Drummer Boy Dresden pattern makes it so, so easy to use up all the random scraps. There are no wrong colors here and no shortage of fun combinations. Thanks to the strong repetition of that black sun center, this quilt feels grounded no matter how crazy-scrap-happy it gets.

Yay! Fortunately for me, the quilt required a sizeable infusion of extra blocks. I whipped up all 13 new blocks in a couple hours yesterday, all while enjoying the company of my new boyfriend, who plays and sings like a dream. Yes, I could definitely get used to that - - -
And did you see what I did in the photo above? It’s a little sun play from a happy day. We shall see what exactly comes to be when I go to sew them all together. A new finish coming soon!
