Happy Together, a finished quilt

This happy quilt was a quick and easy-going project. Not too many choices since I followed the look from the pattern cover, plenty of certainty and a satisfying, predictable result.

I used the Sew Kind of Wonderful pattern called Happy Together and colored it in with Forestburgh fabrics by Heather Ross and Windham’s Ruby + Bee solids. The result is cheery and exuberant, just as I had hoped.

It’s a gift for Elora’s kindergarten teacher, who has been the perfect teacher for Elora these past 2 1/2 years. She’s firm, but fun. Welcoming. Definitely playful! From the fun clothes that this teacher wears, I believe that a bright, happy quilt will be right for her. Elora has three weeks of school left before summer vacation (finally) begins, so we still have plenty of time to gift this together.

Sew Kind of Wonderful patterns are designed to be sewn with unique rulers. For this quilt I used the Wonder Curve Ruler, which I received from the Dutch quilt shop Nanno Creative (who also sells printed Sew Kind of Wonderful patterns). It’s the only ruler/template needed for the pattern and quite cleverly designed. If you have basic curved piecing skills, as for a drunkard’s path block, you have the skills to sew Happy Together. Just keep in mind that the Sew Kind of Wonderful patterns do need to be closely read. These are ideal for people who like to follow directions. Yep, that’s me sometimes!

Of course I really enjoyed getting to explore Heather Ross’s new Forestburgh collection for this quilt. I know, I know - I am super lucky to have my hands on it early. Did you notice that binding? It’s the extra wide Broadstripe from Forestburgh. I had to give it a try for binding. What do you think? Does it remind you vaguely of caution tape? Hmm, hopefully not - - -

As for the backing, it’s a widleback called Night Visitor, also by Heather Ross/Windham Fabrics. So much love for that one!

In The Netherlands our July is starting off super windy, rainy and cool. As in, we’ve been wearing pants and a jacket outside. Here’s hoping that there are more summer days ahead!

I have a new swimsuit to break in ;)
