the Anna Maria Crossweave quilt
I had been wanting to sew this quilt for months and months, so it was such a pleasure to finally scratch that itch.
I love my Crossweave quilt design with its playful X’s and pointy diamonds. And then to sew it in fabrics by my very favorite designer, Anna Maria Parry; well, that was the cherry on top!
Anna Maria’s fabrics speak to me because the colors are so rich and the patterns are both playful and pretty. In combination with the sharp black diamonds, Anna Maria’s fabrics shine even brighter. I love the finished effect!
I have arranged the darker X’s off-center and placed progressively lighter X’s as the eye moves to each side of the quilt. Even the diamonds transition from pure black in the center to patterned black at the edges. It was a very intentional design.
Then when we photographed the finished quilt, Aart held it first like so - sideways! What do you think? I think it’s fabulous like this too! How fun. A single rotation gives the design a new look.
For the quilt backing I used a wideback fabric that features a multitude of color names in white cursive on a black background. I love how the backing makes a dynamic contrast with the colorful quilt front.
The binding is Anna Maria’s color block print called Straight Shooter. Isn’t that a fun effect for a binding? You can find all of the Anna Maria prints that I used for this quilt at Little Fabric Shop, and most are gathered together on this page.
My Crossweave quilt is listed today in my Handmades shop. May she bring you color and cheer!
