Positivities, the finished quilt

When I first starting sewing blocks for Positivities, I worried that the Tilda Peacock background color was contrasting too much with the more saturated patchwork shades. But I kept sewing, trusting the design choices that I had mocked out digitally in advance.

As I completed more elements and they began to coalesce, my confidence grew. Towards the end I knew that I was going to love this finish. The quilting was like a cherry on top! I chose a straight-line Cubism motif with a modern vibe and nice movement, but best of all it brings the work together into a beautiful whole.

Come see, come see!

Tada - this is Positivities! She’s an upbeat explosion of color and shape! I find her combination of stars, squares and playful round elements perfectly delightful. Moreover, since I assigned meaning to each patchwork group, I am reminded of their powerfully positive symbolism as my eyes roam over the quilt. Yep, this is a feels-good and looks-good kind of quilt. I am proud of her.

For the quilt backing I did my usual - a large-scale patchwork from leftover stash fabrics. I particularly love this oversized floral by Anna Maria Horner. It’s called Optimistic! How perfect is that? I have always adored that print, so I’m glad that this piece can be mine to keep. Because I am keeping this Positivities. It is a special quilt for sure.

Yep, I am super stoked about this finish and about the photos too! I love it when that happens. I am already thinking about sewing another Positivities quilt, this time in a soft, springy color scheme - - -

Did you miss the original release of Positivities Block-of-the-Month in January? Maybe in the post-holiday slump you were too distracted or unsure? For me the spring often brings a certain refreshed energy and the feeling that I have time again for all the things that I love. If patchwork positivities speak to your soul, I hope you will join us now for a second chance at Positivities! The pattern specifies the solids I used throughout the quilt and the misc. extra scrap colors for each block, so that you can create a quilt just like this one, if you like.

+++Positivities Round 2+++

This second round of Positivities will include the exact same content as the original Positivities club. The only difference is that the content is released at a faster pace: over six month’s time, April through September. Receiving more blocks at once may mean that it’s easier for you to keep in the groove with this quilt. Plus, you can finish it well before the holidays, which certainly has its advantages. By the way, if you are already a member of the first round club, which started in January, I will give you a chance to easily move over to the second round later this summer, so that you can finish before the holidays too!

At life’s most challenging moments, creating keeps me open to the possibilities that change offers. The beautiful shapes and colors in quilts remind me to slow down, listen to my heart, follow my joy, lean into my community and shine on. Each patchwork group in Positivities goes along with just such a life lesson. For example, the Kaleidoscope group reminds me to take a fresh look - new possibilities emerge if we’re brave enough to look from another perspective. I share what each patchwork group means to me, along with the patchwork instructions each month. This BOM is your monthly dose of patchwork + positivity!

Skill level: Suitable for intermediate quilters. During the course of the club, you will learn techniques for foundation paper piecing, strip piecing, simple curved piecing and partial seams. No prior experience with these techniques is assumed.

And as a bonus, Positivities includes three extra Stitched in Color quilt patterns. Each original pattern is currently available only to Positivities club members. The bonus patterns include my Inhibition quilt and Kaleidoscope Groove, plus another surprise pattern that I’ll be working on soon.
