bee blocks in Orange and Blue

Is it almost the end of April already? This month has positively flown by, and I still hadn’t made my April bee blocks. Best get to work!

Our prompt this April comes from Eva-Maria @Zusjeb. We’re to make orange and blue blocks in any classic patchwork style. We should make one 12” finish block and a few smaller blocks in increments of 3”, 6” or 12”. Eva-Marie will puzzle the resulting blocks together to make a totally unique patchwork sampler.

To get us started, Eva-Marie made this batch of example blocks. Do you recognize the star? It looks a lot like the star from the Pas de Deux quilt! Which, of course, I did not event, haha. I only made the connection today when I considered making that very star for my 12” contribution. Oops!

As we are already well into the month of April, Eva-Marie has already received blocks from several of my bee mates. Here is the group she has so far. Isn’t that fun? I like them all, especially that dark zigzag block in the center.

A sampler quilt, but in English paper piecing? Yes, that exists! The beautiful Seedlings sampler quilt by Tales of Cloth is made from English Paper Pieced and Applique blocks, which are then machine sewn together in a log cabin format.  Make it with:

I had such hard time choosing what direction to go for my 12” block. In the end I decided not to make a star. Maybe that was the wrong call? I’ve been indecisive these days. I think it comes from having lots on my mind. Anyhoo, I decided to make the Antique Tile block from Stacy Lee. It has simple, straight lines which should be easy to mix with anything.

I’m keeping it simple for my misc. blocks as well. Simple 2” squares might seem boring, but actually they can be so handy in a random sampler. Sometimes simple is good.

So, here are my orange and blue blocks for Eva-Marie and the Comfort circle of do. Good Stitches. I hope they play well with others!
