patchwork medicine

Happy Monday, friends. I had hoped to bring you my finished Nineteen Thirty quilt today; but, alas, I wasn’t able to get photographs this weekend. Our family was hit with a very intense flu, so it was a stay-at-home sort of weekend with lots of naps.

Still, I did make it to my sewing machine a few times to feed these triangle scraps under the humming needle. Sometimes a distraction is better medicine than another nap.

Here is the skeleton of my scrap quilt, arranged on the design wall. The Just Red fabric strips by Zen Chic move from white through pinks to deep, dark red. About 1/4 of my triangle scraps are saturated, near-solid blenders called Spotted, also by Zen Chic. They’re giving the quilt a happy, springy look, which I am leaning into by using lots of white-background scraps and avoiding my dark value ones.

Luckily, little miss was feeling well and happy to help bring pieces to the design wall. We also made homemade Valentine’s Day cards this weekend for a few of her closest friends. Very much in keeping with this color palette, lol.

Next time you see this, I think it’ll be finished. It’s sewing up so fast, which still feels like a scrappy miracle. Here’s to bright spots on February days!
