Nutcracker Pas de Deux

Color Palette: red, green, pink

Finish it by Christmas 2022 - an amazing gift or family heirloom in the making!

I think Pas de Deux makes a funky, cheery Christmas quilt, don’t you think? The patchwork layout already has a high-energy feeling. Interpreted in a traditional, red + green palette, it strikes me as festive, but quite unexpected.

Yes, even with just two main colors, Pas de Deux dances. With a limited palette you can still define each patchwork ensemble. To keep things interesting, make sure you have dark and light values of your two main colors. For example, burgundy, scarlet and pink span the gamut from dark red to light red. Also, consider warm vs. cool versions of your focus hues. Here I’ve used warm limey green and cool evergreen. Utilizing both value and warmth concepts gives you lots of variations to work with! If these concepts are unfamiliar, pick up a copy of my book, A Quilter’s Field Guide to Color: A Hands-on Workbook for Mastering Fabric Selection. There’s lots to discover.

I hope you enjoy kicking off the planning stage for Pas de Deux with today’s color sheet. When you register for the club, you’ll receive the Prelude document, which contains all the info you need about scrap sizes, fabrics, tools, color palette ideas, etc. I’ve got you covered.
