Checkers, a simple scrap dance

It’s decided - I’m going to finish my first Pas de Deux quilt top this month! I’m so inspired by all your lovely variations at #pasdedeuxquilt, and I’m eager to try a whole different spin on this interlocking quilt pattern. First, a few more groups to sew in my original version, starting with Checkers.

Yay, bright pink and navy! I’m just smitten by this color combo lately. As it happens I had a whole stack of 2.5” navy scraps in my crumb basket. How lucky is that?

Checkers is undoubtedly the easiest group to sew in our block-of-the-month program. Did you know that I’ve scheduled Checkers for August? That's a month that often finds us traveling or undergoing transitions that make for a busy time. Sewing this easy, rhythmic group will be a relief.

Oh, checkerboard patchwork, how I do love thee! It’s charming every time.

Now a whole checkerboard quilt in this small-size patchwork would be quite an endeavor, but this little taste is pure delight.

Each time I add a new group to my design wall, this quilt gets better and better. Even though I’m planning to do something a little different with my next Pas de Deux quilt, I will say that this rainbow version has been an excellent approach for utilizing my scraps. I’ve used a lot of my solid scraps too, which gives my quilt a certain intensity (That and the saturated colors that I tend to favor).

Next week, I look forward to sewing another new group!

Psst: Pas de Deux members, look out for the March delivery later today.
