Big Sun, shine on

Well, what a week! I have been a busy bee answering emails about Positivities club and getting new members all set up with the January edition so that they can start sewing.

Keeping organized - dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s - that’s actually my strong point. Don’t ask me to assemble something I took apart once upon a time, but you can count on me to keep track of all the little pieces! So this week has had a nice back-at-work groove.

I am going to be working ahead of Positivities club, preparing blocks and instructions to have them ready for you when the time comes. That means that I will finish my quilt in a few months. Yay!

Today I’m sharing with you Big Sun, which will come to club members in September. The positivity here is simple - let yourself shine. There are some things that you are particularly good at, and you should own that about yourself. Celebrate and shine on!

Big sun is a block that combines foundation paper piecing and curves. The center of the block and the outer edge are cut out from templates. I also provide templates for the paper pieced shapes because shaped-pieces are easier to paper piece with in this project.

Something about those spikes is just so pretty. I often wonder if the shapes we haven’t sewn before are especially attractive because of the novelty effect? I have never sewn a New York Beauty quilt, so maybe that is why this block so captures my heart.

The finished block is just half a sun. You might be tempted to make more and a whole sun too, which you can. That’s the thing about a sampler quilt such as Positivities: all of the block directions are there for you should you want to make a whole quilt full!

Here’s what I have made for my Positivities quilt so far. This is the cover quilt version, so if you follow the pattern directions regarding color placement, your quilt will look a lot like mine. I have sewn roughly half of the blocks. It’s looking fun! Now I just have to decide which block comes next - - -

Or a new quilt?
