a charming Beginning

My energy is building for the season ahead. There is so much I want to explore, and I can feel the space opening all around me to follow my heart. In fact, I already have ideas for four quilts that I’d like to sew in this coming warm season; whereas, I usually think just one quilt ahead - - -

This quilt from Tilda Fabrics is my first jumping-off point. It’s gorgeous, and would be fun to make exactly so. It’s called the Embroidery Flower quilt, which is a free pattern and available as a quilt kit (Sojo Fabric has the spring version in stock).

However, if I made it exactly so, I would be missing that sense of adventure. Instead I’ve set course for something yet to be seen. I’ll use the same mysterious dark solid background (that is Peacock from Tilda’s Solid range). Can you spy the plus shapes along the edges of the Embroidery pixelated design? I am imagining a circular rainbow blend of plus shapes, like a cloud floating over the Peacock expanse. If that’s hard to imagine, no worries. I’ll take you along for the ride ;)

First things first. Scraps! And the peacock solid. It’s not arrived yet, so I’m improvising visually with this small piece of a similar shade. I need to cut little squares of color, lots of them, so I’ve been shuffling around in my fabric scrap drawers.

The Confident Stitch

Winter is for long, cozy days of complex quilting, but summer? That’s for sunbathing and picnicking  – preferably atop a handmade Steep Rock quilt! Piecing this quilt top takes hours instead of days, so you’ll be out on the grass before you know it.

In stock now: the Sleep Rock Quilt Kit

This morning I indulged in the pleasure of playing around visually with my squares for the very first time.

Yes! This is going to be fun, playful, colorful. I’m definitely hooked.

Ah the charm of colorful squares. Happy weekend, friends.
