Houses for Comfort Circle
Let’s take a little break from all things Wild Oranges, shall we? Since 2010 I’ve been an active member of do. Good Stitches, which is an online quilting bee that collaboratively makes quilts for charity. You can read more about do. Good Stitches here and also sign up for a spot, if you like. The bee is made up of many circles. Each circle is a group of about 10 members who make roughly 1 quilt per month for their chosen focal charity. I’m a part of European-based Comfort circle. In the Comfort circle we’re making house blocks this month, inspired by this Kaffe Fasset book.
These charming houses were made by members of Comfort Circle: the pair on the left by Andrea H. and the pair on the right by Eva-Marie B. We’re going for the colors of sunset in the sky behind the houses. Otherwise, the color palette is pretty wide open.
None of my sunset-colored solid fabric scraps were large enough for this assignment, so I ended up searching out a suitable red from my fabric stacks. Then, it was back to the scraps to look for things that feels house-y.

Isn’t that ric-rac-y texture so fun for a roof? That’s part of the Warp & Weft collection, as is the stripe I’m using here at the sides. The on point squares print is a random scrap I received from a friend. How lucky that it was just the right size for this house!
Tada: my houses. They ended up quite similar in palette to my Kismet Wild Oranges quilt. Hmm? Funny as there are no Kismet fabrics involved, haha. However, the solid red is Weathered Brick in Art Gallery Pure Solids, one of the fabrics I used in my quilt. It’s a soft red that plays very nicely with other colors. Maybe a new favorite!
Now my houses are off in the mail to September’s lead quilter. She’ll receive blocks from all bee members and put them together into a very fun charity quilt!
