Pretty, no matter how you slice it

Hello, hello!  How has your week been going?  Mine is packed, as this time of year tends to be.  Yesterday was the day to sew all my pretty orange peels together.   But - - - I had to run out to buy Elora much-needed shoes, take a scheduled walk with a friend, unpack longarm quilting shipments, and let’s not talk about the more mundane stuff.  Thus, I had to save my post about this fresh new quilt top for today.

Yes, sewing together those blocks may have taken a moment, but I am ecstatic about the outcome!  Here’s just a quarter of my Wild Oranges quilt.  Isn’t she a cutie?

This quilt design is really perfect for showing off the Kismet fabrics by Sharon Holland.  It’s simple, but not too simple. Layered, but not too busy.  I’m eager to see the design incarnated in other fabrics, so I quite look forward to exploring Wild Oranges with a fresh set of colors during our sew-along this fall!

This just in - Slow Stroll by Fancy that Design House.  What a gorgeous autumnal collection!  I love, love, love the array of colors.  Here’s another that would make a fantastic Wild Oranges quilt.

Available now in a bundle or yardage.

And now this morning, I can share the finished top - - -

With Wild Oranges I wanted to create a patchwork design that has a big-picture story, which you can read when it is laying flat.  But, I also wanted to create a design that would be beautiful crumpled up, twisted round and dropped in a heap on the sofa, as I know it will be.

For me, this totally hits the spot!  I find the flowers, oranges and vines intriguing from any angle.  The soft orange peel shapes give it a pretty presence no matter how you slice it.  Will you be sewing your own Wild Oranges with us this fall?

Good news, both Winter Creek Cloth and Sojo Fabrics will be stocking Kismet quilt kits for Wild Oranges!  If you’d like to recreate this quilt, the kit will provide all the fabrics for your quilt top in just the right quantities, including the Art Gallery solids.  Sign up below to stay in the know.
