Wild Oranges: Sew Quadrant 3

It’s week 4 of the Wild Oranges sew-along. How are you liking your orange peel creations, friends? This week we’re sewing the third quadrant, which means you can really see your Wild Oranges quilt coming together!

Not sewing along? You can still enjoy the view from our hashtag #WildOrangesQuilt. I don’t think you’ll be able to choose just one favorite.

Week 4: Sew Quadrant 3

Here we go again with another Wild Oranges quadrant: arrange fabrics, press orange peels, applique and join blocks!

Only this time I tried something different.

This time, after arranging background squares, I brought all of the required orange peels for this quadrant to my pressing table. I pressed each and every one as orange peel slices before arranging them on the appropriate background squares. That does save time! It’s not how I did it when I was designing the quilt, of course, but if you’re relying on the pattern for fabric placement, this order is more efficient.

Does your template slip while you’re pressing? Try using a piece of double sided tape to give it a bit of grabbing power! Thanks for the tip, @Lynnjarz.

Quadrant 3 is the smallest one, and it shows in terms of speed. It might come together faster than you expect, especially now that you’ve probably streamlined your preferred process. Good job.

Pattern Corrections

I do my best to make my patterns complete and accurate, but sometimes errors do slip through. The detailed quilt maps in Wild Oranges are a minefield for possible errors and, indeed, two have been identified. Note: if you purchased your pattern in October, your copy will already be accurate.

  1. Quadrant 2 on page 16. Check the background square in column 3, row 5. This light value background squares should be labeled L1 (not M1).

  2. Quadrant 4 on page 18. Check the background square in column 6, row 5. This light value background square should be labeled L3 (not D3).

If your pattern is inaccurate, feel free to contact me for an updated download. Use the email address associated with your order. Thanks!

I hope that your pretty peels are making you smile! Enjoy the process.

Week 4 Sew-Along Goal: Sew Quadrant 3

What, we’re more than halfway done already?

Congratulations to @PurlsBeyondPrice the winner of our random, weekly sew-along prize. I love how she’s created her own mixture of Kismet fabrics and other stash fabrics. It’s looking warm and lovely.

Share to win!

This week share a photo of your work in process with hashtag #WildOrangesQuilt.

It would be fun to see some quadrants together , if you can.

Your photo enters you into a giveaway for my Seafarers pattern! This medallion style sampler quilt is sewn via machine paper piecing. A combination of fanciful shapes and balanced repetition makes the Seafarers pattern ripe for exploration. Includes 5 paper piecing blocks, including the 16” Compass block below. I think it would make a fantastic quilt all by itself!

Winner will be announced next week and giveaway is open worldwide.

good luck, friends!
