Honeycomb Stars: Last blocks

This sew-along has been straightforward, blissfully repetitive and predictable. Only, you might be surprised that this week there are half as many blocks as usual to sew!

Week 5: Low Value blocks

Here we are sewing our last batch of blocks! The low value block group is actually quite small. I know we all have a little less energy at the end of a project as compared to the beginning, so it’s nice to finish with a lighter batch. My Warp & Weft selections for low value are two pale wovens and the solid pale blue from the line for the triangles.

Have you noticed that in each batch of my Honeycomb Stars blocks, the triangles are always darker than the hexagons? I continue that balance here, so we have almost white hexagons (white being the lowest value possible) and soft blue triangles. While not necessary, maintaining some difference in value between the hexagons and triangles helps the patchwork pattern to pop.

This low value group includes some half hexagons. Even though it’s my own pattern, I still got nervous cutting some of my beautiful hexagons in half to make these blocks, haha. Don’t be alarmed. It’s correct!

Ok, now I can’t wait to see these blocks all together! As soon as I finished the last low value blocks, I started building the quilt on my design wall. I’ve decided to save the lighter purple blocks for my B value group, where they fit better. Here are my darkest value hexagons (A group) and piles of the others below. Today I’m going to get back to this and see how it looks all together. Exciting!
