Honeycomb Stars: Assemble Blocks
Some quilt tops are pretty much finished once you finish the blocks. Well, my friends, Honeycomb Stars is not one of them. It takes a good chunk of time to join our hexagon blocks to make a quilt top. Luckily, it’s all normal patchwork piecing - no y-seams or hand sewing here. Get into a groove and enjoy the rhythm this week!

Week 6: Assemble
Step one, of course, is to get all those quilt blocks arranged in your lovely value blend. You can follow suggested layout from the Honeycomb Stars pattern or feel your own way. Either way, I suggest you start at the center, with the dark blocks and build outward. No need to be truly symmetrical about it. Variation and unexpected choices keep things interesting.
Don’t have a design wali? Consider working in batches of 4 rows at a time. Arrange the rows on a large table or the floor beside your sewing station. After sewing rows and joining them into a large piece of patchwork, consider using washi tape to mark the upper right corner and write the group number on the tape. Otherwise, it will be difficult to keep things oriented!
Don’t forget to add the extra low value triangles at the edges of rows before joining rows together! The joined rows look a bit silly at this point, but all the fabric is right where you need it.
Once the quilt top is complete, you’ll have the pleasure of trimming those protruding triangles flush with the half hexagons. And perhaps a fairy will then appear, wearing tights that exactly match your quilt, and bearing her sweet admiration. I hope you are so lucky!
