Honeycomb Stars: Mid-low Value blocks

Here we go, onto the next set of blocks. If you are sewing along, our quilts are already more than halfway finished. With this week’s goal we turn the last big corner and head toward a finish!

Week 4: Mid-low Value blocks

Time to sew the last large set of blocks for our hexagon quilts. They are the mid-low value blocks, called group C in the Honeycomb Stars pattern. Once again, if you’re following the pattern closely or using a quilt kit, you should have five fabrics in this group. My Warp & Weft selections are soft orchid purple, peach and that fun multi-colored stripe.

I’m enjoying this funky triangle print that I’m using for the triangles in this group. It’s gives the blocks so much personality without disrupting the value-based blend that makes Honeycomb Stars glow.

Oooh! I’m loving this. Each time I add another layer of value it makes it better and better.

But, you now what? I do spy something I might want to change. Now that I’ve added value layer C, the lighter purple striped blocks in value layer A look lower value than I expected. I may reorganize blocks so that the lighter purple stripe blocks go between layer B and layer C. I’ll report back on that experiment with my next Honeycomb Stars update.
