Maple Farm Geesey quilt

It’s a finished quilt day! Those are good days, indeed.

So this is my latest Geesey quilt, made entirely of Maple Farm Tilda fabrics, combined with select Tilda chambrays and some misc. solids. Even the backing is a Tilda basics purple polkadot, and a very nice shade of purple in my opinion. I’m glad I have plenty of backing scraps leftover, as a good purple can be hard to find.

This soft, dusty palette felt like quite a departure for me, but maybe you weren’t surprised? After all, I like to be adventurous when it comes to color, even if the adventure was to be more traditional in this case.

For myself, I was surprised by how much I like the pale, super-serene aqua with the warm purples of the Maple Farm collection. Aqua and soft purple - these were some of my grandmother’s favorite colors. I thought of her while making the quilt. If she were still with us, it would be a perfect gift for her.

Well, I do like how it came out! The Geesey pattern is pretty much a sure thing. I love how the directionality of the every-which-way geese keep it interesting and little pops of dark value fabrics add depth.

You might notice that just a few of my geese are flying in between rows. I’ll be showing you how to do this during the sew-along, if you’d like to try it. Geesey Geesey Sew-Along starts properly on Monday! I’m looking forward to diving in to a scrappy version this time.

Quilt Sandwich

This pretty new bundle caught my eye today. It’s Along the Fields from Cotton & Steel. The simple, rich palette would make quite a serene quilt. Could be just the thing for your Geesey Geesey!

Available in a fat quarter bundle or yardage.

Oh, the quilting. Do you like it? I explored a lot of options (including your good ideas!) but kept coming back to soft flowers. The fabrics and colors just beg for it. I’ve added a new quilting motif to my design catalog, called Cherry Blossom. It’s a fluffy, tumbling floral design that gives good, even quilting coverage while keeping everything soft.

My Maple Farm Geesey quilt is bound in Gracie Sand, a sweet and miniature floral. The binding fabric is included with the quilt top fabrics in this Geesey quilt kit available at Sojo Fabric. You can also opt to purchase coordinating backing fabric, including the pretty purple dot shown here.

Happy weekend, all!
