Dear Dottie quilt

Oh my goodness, scrap quilts are SO much fun.  I highly recommend getting lost in one, especially over a long weekend.  The timing was perfect this Labor Day.

Introducing Dear Dottie, my latest finish.  She's a scrappy color scheme, minus yellow and brown, with generous helpings of black and purple.  Sometimes I characterize my scrap quilts with a vague color personality, because it allows me to feel more confident about fabric choices.  Yes, I'm using all scraps, but I have so many scraps... They can say all sorts of things.  By giving my scraps a story, I am happier with the results.

And this one does make me happy!  I finished her on my longarm with simple diagonal Mirage quilting.  The straight lines emphasize the funky personality without adding more busy-busy to this already quirky quilt.

I'm shocked by how quickly this one came together!  Surely that's because the process itself was so satisfying.

For the backing, I used a large piece of Art Gallery's Mediteranneo, combined with an Anna Maria Horner floral and Windham Fabrics 108" wide back scrap.  For me this combo jives with the black, navy and purple that gives the quilt top its urban personality.

I hope my customer likes what I chose!  She purchased the quilt while I was still making it, but didn't want to get involved in any design decisions.  It was a nice boost to my productivity to know this one already had a home!

Though Rora would have been happy to keep it.  At this age, I'm pretty sure she's my biggest fan.  Anything I put on the floor, to measure binding for instance, she rolls around on with happy sighs.

But we have enough quilts!  This one is already on its way to a new home.

I bound Dear Dottie with the perfect Cotton & Steel print that's been waiting in my stash for it's moment to shine.  Win!

THAT was fun.  I'll have to do it again real soon.
