May in Quilter's Color Quest

This month in Quilter’s Color Quest we’re enjoying exercises six and seven in The Quilter’s Field Guide to Color: A Hands-on Workbook for Mastering Fabric Selection. I’ve already shared my work for All Colors In. Value is coming next week. Let’s take a moment to see what you’ve been up to!

Allison Harris @CluckCluckSew made this rainbow blend from her very own scraps during our book blog hop. Fun!

Jodi of Tales of Cloth started us off during the book hop with a fabulous demonstration of this challenging swatch exercise. Jodi’s swatches capture these rainbow families beautifully: classic, pastel, dusty and jewel.

(When) Rachel’s beautiful book arrived and I was (happily) surprised at how different it was to what I was expecting. The first thing I appreciated was that it was light(er) on color theory than on creating the feeling we want with fabric. Just because I learned the colour wheel in high school doesn’t mean I know how to use it to create clashy, scrappy favourites or light and airy gifts. Usually these things happen by intuition, and Rachel has done a really great job of teasing the intuitive side of color play apart to make it more step-by-step.

Balance Your Stash

Each month during Quilter’s Color Quest, I will create a custom bundle with one of my fantastic sponsor shops. Here’s the idea - as you get to know color better, you often realize that your stash could use some balancing. Do you enjoy my eye for color or fabrics? Cool! Then, these bundles are a convenient and inspiring way of filling those holes in your stash.

Aaaaaand, each month the 16-piece, fat quarter custom bundle also serves as the prize for one lucky participant in Quilter’s Color Quest. Each photo you post to Instagram with #QuiltersColorQuest enters you to win the monthly giveaway. So, go out there and do the work! There are lots of good reasons to enjoy this process together.

For May I’ve created a 16-piece rainbow blend fabric bundle, available now at Purple Stitches.

16 colors seems to be my magic number when creating rainbow projects. This fat quarter bundle would be more than enough rainbow yardage to create my Wheel Quilt pattern. There are exactly 16 spokes in this color wheel quilt. What a happy coincidence!

Our lucky winner will be chosen at random on June 1st. I will use Instagram messaging to be in touch to organize shipping of the prize.

Thanks for supporting my sponsor, Purple Stitches! They ship internationally from the United Kingdom.
