Doll Diapers + Bibs

This week I got to make doll clothes for Elora’s baby doll. They’re just simple things - diapers and bibs - easy for Elora to use in her pretend play.

Amongst the Pop bundle by Rashida Coleman-Hale, Elora had a clear preference for the star print. I selected all three for this project, as well as one of the adorable balloon doggie fabrics and the Pop Off fabric for the food-factor. Here I’ve gathered my supplies, including a doll diaper I purchased from a now-closed Etsy shop, way back when I didn’t even have a sewing machine!

To create these diapers, I simply traced around the existing diaper and added a 1/4” seam allowance. So easy! With the addition of sew-on velcro, they’re finished in no time.

I drew a paper template myself, for the bibs, tracing a small embroidery hoop for the rounded edge. Fortunately, I had my little model on hand for frequent size checks. The bibs also close with velcro.

Both the diapers and bibs are sewn with two layers of fabric, right sides together, leaving an opening for turning. Turning the tiny bib ends right side out, was slow-going, but we made it. The cuteness is definitely worth it!

Baby doll mostly goes without clothes these days. I’m hoping these little gifts will entice Elora to build her skills to dress her doll. With any luck, that’ll translate to interest in dressing herself too.

Thanks again to Trendtex for providing the fabrics for these fun Christmas projects. It was a pleasure to sew with new Ruby Star Society!
