in the Quilting Studio, no. 14

Would you like to stop by for a peak in my quilting studio? I never get tired of opening shipping boxes to find freshly pieced quilt tops and backings ready to become cozy quilts. It would be a waste not to share some of this beauty with the world. Here are a few of the projects I’ve had a pleasure of quilting lately!

Bohemian Spark by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic

This quilt hits me in all the right spots. The vibrant, warm colors, dramatic diamonds and large scale all combine to make quite a stunning piece of art.

Bohemian Spark is one of Brigitte Heitland’s patterns for her brand-new Zen Chid fabric collection, Just Red. I was super-excited when she wrote that she wanted to send it to me for custom quilting!

With custom quilting, distinct parts of the quilt are quilted with motifs scaled to just the right size. This contrasts to all-over quilting, where one pattern repeats over the entire quilt top and does not “map” to any particular part of the patchwork.

Dreamy Plus Quilt by Dagmar

Some quilts aren’t mean to turn heads as much as to cultivate serenity. Dagmar’s quilt is just that kind. She drenched aqua and teal in buckets of low volume fabrics, so that the patchwork has a floaty, dreamy quality. Dagmar @miss_emmi w chose clamshell all-over quilting for her project. Such a good idea! The soft, even curves blend well with the tone of the work.

Don’t you want to pet it? Or curl right up and go to sleep!

HexiePop by Marcy Davenport

This beautiful quilt is sized for a single bed. It’s made with the HexiePop pattern in a simple color palette that will be easy to coordinate with room decor.

I think Marcy @Bookish.crafter was clever to use ombre fabrics, so that the waves of color have subtle variations, but a natural harmony. It’s interesting to watch the colors flow across the quilt, just like the patchwork itself.

I suggested a gold thread that matches perfectly with the metallic confetti on these Ombre Confetti fabrics. The thread color doesn’t jump out at you when you first see the quilt, but it adds something special up close. Usually I lean toward thread colors that blend, but there are times to play with it too!

Winter Star by Brigitte Heitland

And my very latest quilt? Another custom quilting project for Brigitte of Zen Chic. This is Winter Star, a new quilt and pattern made with her Chill fabric collection.

The credit goes to Brigitte for this quilting design. All finished it makes a perfect wintery wall hanging. Makes me ponder designating a spot in my home for a seasonal wall quilt. Hmmm.
