Bold Monochrome: a mosaic contest

Slow down a minute, my friend, and ponder with me in color.

What is the essence of red?  How does green make you feel?  What does blue say to you?  Each classic hue has its own personality, a unique energy.  Without the interplay of other colors to soften the edges and blur the mood, each hue tells its heart story.

Monochromatic is simple, strong and pure.  It requires focus, the restraint of sure intention and considered choices. The reward?  Confidence.  Clarity.  Yes, I have hit my mark!  Even among many tints and shades of your chosen color, its core energy emerges true.

When you add black to the monochromatic mix, it emphasizes and energizes your hue all the more.  Black makes color pop, surge and sharpen.  The other neutrals create space.  Black makes monochrome bold.

As quilters we so often take our color cues from multi-color inspiration.  This time, tap into one classic hue:  red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple.  Which color claims your heart today?

Carefully craft your mosaic of 9 fabrics from among the offerings at Crosscut Sewing Co.  Choose fabrics to express your interpretation of Bold Monochrome!  Explore different variations of your color and spice the fabric mix with black, a little or a lot.

Once you have chosen your fabrics, use Mosaic Maker or any mosaic tool of your choice to create your mosaic.  Copy and paste image URL's from Crosscut Sewing Co.  To find URL's first go to the item page, then right click on the image you want and choose "copy image location".  If URL's aren't working for you, save images to your computer and upload them to Mosaic Maker.

To enter the contest, add your mosaic image to our collection here.  If it suits you, link to a blog post or Instagram capture explaining your choices - that helps us spread the word about our contest.  Anyone can enter, anywhere in the world.

***Important Tip*** If possible, share your mosaic so that when it's loaded to the link up and you click on your mosaic, it takes viewers to see a larger version. This makes it so much easier for me to see your mosaic and consider it as a finalist!  Hosting your mosaic in a public place (such as Instagram or a blog) and linking the URL works beautifully!

Add your mosaic by midnight June 21st.  You can make up to 2 mosaics!  On Friday the 22nd, I'll open voting.  We'll have two winners!  The 2 Top Mosaics will earn a complete fat quarter set of their mosaic fabrics!!!  Winners announced June 25th.
