thread stashing!
When I first learned to sew in fashion college, I'd stitch up homework at my mother-in-law's if I ran out of time in the sewing lab. I remember opening a drawer to find a delightful surprise, a gorgeous array of colored thread, arranged just so in perfect order. All those variant shades seemed luxurious to a student working in white thread on boring muslin day after day. I found the empty bobbin I needed and went back to work never imagining my day would come.
I've been sewing now for five years, really sewing for fun. (My stint in fashion college was just six months long, by the way. I never completed that first sewing class!) Project by project I've picked up colored thread as needed from the local store, just grabbing whatever brand was on sale with the right shade at the time. Turns out having the ideal color can be absolutely essential for a nice top-stitch on small projects. And... turns out a quilter can enjoy a little colored thread too!
Since getting to be a fan of Connecting Threads' thread I've had my eye on their colored spools. I've been doing all my quilting with big neutral thread cones from Connecting Threads for a few years now. The thread works well in my Juki. No breaks or tangles or troubles. And best of all, Connecting Thread thread is SO affordable!
This year I decided to take advantage of the holiday sales to totally indulge that colored thread itch! I bought the Saltwater Taffy set for a variety of soft shades and bought others a la cart to fill in my favorite colors. And, of course, I restocked my go-to cones in white, natural and silver.
Lots of quilting in my future! Here's to cheap rainbows and reliable thread!!
p.s. I picked up some Fibs and Fables, Anna Maria's newest collection. I'm thinking one might make the cut for Eleni's next photo shoot. Only three photo shoots left until I've finished out her first year! What do you think? Any of these a favorite?
