Starbright Stars: Sewing more Blocks

It’s week three of our sew-along. How are your stars coming along?

This fall I am hosting one of my most-requested sew-alongs ever. Starbright Stars quilt is easier to sew than you would think. Make something special with your fabric scraps or sew that fabric stack that has been waiting into a sparkly wonder.

Week 3: Sewing More Blocks

Are you in the sew-flow? I like that in this stage of a project everything is cut and chosen so that I can simply plop myself behind the sewing machine and whirr away my cares. My background triangles sit in stacks by my machine. When I’m ready to sew, I move two groups of diamonds from my design wall to my work table, set the background triangles in place and sew up two blocks at a time.

Last week I sewed a lot of blocks. The yellow star is one of my new favorites. I really love how it looks with the fan shapes emanating from center. And that striped star is also a definitely winner.

Choosing fabrics for this quilt felt a bit strange because I wanted fall colors, but the weather is still so summery. In fact, we are enjoying a few weeks of nice warm weather here in the Netherlands, after a rather cool summer. Still, I know that by the time the quilt is finished and I am photographing it in October, it will definitely be fall here. And I do love fall.

Here are all my already-sewn triangle blocks on my design wall. I’m not totally sure about my cream/wheat/beige background, but I hope that once it is finished and the weather turns that it has that cozy harvest vibe that I usually love.

Week 3 Sew-Along Goal: Sew 35 Blocks

Are you sewing the layout from the pattern? Sew 35 triangle blocks to keep on track for an early October finish. Partial blocks (the ones for the edge) also count toward that tally!
