Economy Star Parade in Clashy Bright colors

It’s done! I’m excited to say that the binding is on and every last stitch is complete for my latest Economy Star Parade quilt.

I had in mind an older child when creating this quilt. This one has Clashy Bright colors, a connection to a long-ago created palette that continues to inspire. The colors have a high-energy vibe with a touch of moodiness from the dark, dark stars.

Look closely and you’ll see that I actually used three different solids for the stars. I didn’t have quite enough of any one dark blue, so I used two subtly different dark blues. I’m all for using what’s on hand!

Dance in Paris fabrics are in stock now and ready to ship! This long-anticipated collection from Zen Chic does not disappoint.

And, conveniently, there’s a quilt-along too! The second round of the Zen Chic Spring in Paris Quilt-Along is launching on July 7th.

When choosing a quilting pattern, I wanted something that would feel a bit edgy, like the colors themself. I settled on a motif called Jungle. It’s an organic texture (as opposed to geometric) with a rugged tone. The quilting is not too tight in any one place, resulting in a cozy texture.

Choosing a thread color was a bit more tricky. Anything light would be distracting on the stars, so I opted for a medium value bright turquoise. At first I started with an even dark shade - more of a teal - but it looked black on the bright colors. The turquoise shoes on both the bright colors and on the dark stars as it’s a sort of in-between shade.

And for binding, a Cotton & Steel star print. What could be more perfect? The backing is a large-scale text print by Windham Fabrics.

This quilt will be donated to a child in need via The Salvation Army in The Netherlands. Thank you, Comfort Circle, for making so many bright and playful economy blocks for our collaborative project! It’s a pleasure to work together for a good cause.
