Have you been waiting for this birdie, friends? Well, here she is! Announcing the release of the Penny Bird digital pattern.

When I announced the After the Rain sew-along last December, I heard that you just had to have the bird block too.

Though the Penny Sampler blocks are generally only available as the complete pattern set, years ago I released Dala Horse as a stand-along bock pattern. Now, it’s Penny Bird that’s become a stand-alone pattern! So-named to associate her with her source in the Penny Sampler.

My 2020 Penny Bird block didn’t end up in my Penny Sampler quilt, but you spied it on the improv-style quilt back for my 2020 After the Rain quilt. Penny Bird gives the quilt back a sense of lightness and whimsy. Plus, she really shows off there in a way she wouldn’t in a busy sampler quilt. Maybe you’d like to add a bird to your next pieced quilt back?
