Dear Dottie: Join Quilt Top

This post is part of the Dear Dottie Sew-Along! See all posts.

Almost finished! Let’s get these quilt tops ready for the Dear Dottie Showcase next Monday. I’m looking forward to celebrating yours!

Are you sewing-along? Make sure you follow @FencelineFabrics, @StitchedinColor, and @TheMakingsofJoy in order to be eligible to win prizes.

To enter to win, just share your progress pictures, wherever you are in the process, on Instagram with #DearDottieQuilt. You’ll see there’s a whole community sewing-along, some just getting started!

Week 4: Join Quilt Top

How is your quilt coming along? Today I cut and sewed the last few blocks needed for my throw-sized Dear Dottie quilt. I’m happy to report that this quilt has used up all of my holiday scraps - just as I’d hoped! Turns out using light, dark and colorful scraps in a value-based quilt is rather inclusive.

Now my Dear Dottie blocks are arranged on my design wall as per the quilt block map in the pattern. Not that you have to follow the block placement map from the pattern. I might swap a few blocks before I actually sew them together. Or - more likely - they’ll get swapped on accident while I’m sewing my rows!

I don’t really have any tips about joining the blocks. It’s a pretty straightforward and meditative process, don’t you think? I’m going to join mine tonight when a friend comes over to sew. Should be just the kind of project for conversation.

Today we can be inspired by my co-host’s finished quilt top. Look at this fantastic version by Joy Martin @TheMakingsofJoy!

Don’t you love what she’s done with these Ruby Star Society “Darlings”? Stop by Joy’s instagram for more of her delightful process pictures and to learn about some extra Dear Dottie prizes coming from Ruby Star!

p.s. You can find Darlings fabrics at Fenceline Fabrics, our sew-along sponsor.

Grand Prize

Make sure to photograph your Dear Dottie quilt top and share on Instagram by midnight on Sunday, December 8th. The following day I’ll be posting a Dear Dottie Showcase including all completed quilt tops right here at Stitched in Color. Each one will be eligible to win the grand prize!

The grand prize winner will be randomly selected and announced in our Showcase. What’s up for grabs? Fenceline Fabiric’s PINK AND GOLD COTTON + STEEL FAT QUARTER BUNDLE with HANDMADE WALNUT SEAM RIPPER NECKLACE and 2 spools of COTTON + STEEL SULKY THREAD.

Plus, a $25 Gift Certificate to Fenceline Fabrics!

Fenceline Fabrics’ beautiful seam rippers are handmade by Bob Seymore in Manhattan, Kansas. No more plastic! Choose from necklace or double-sided options. When the seam ripper eventually dulls, replacement heads are available, as are additional head options like needle threaders and stilettos.

Don’t forget to follow include #DearDottieQuilt in your Instagram caption so that I can find your quilt top for the showcase!

Have a great week!
