Miss Needlebook

Look what arrived with a recent shipment of Kona from Fresh Modern Fabrics! Alice sent along these enticing little snippets which I really could not separate in good conscience.

Snippets from Fresh Modern Fabrics

I love having a "blank check" to make gifts for the campers. What fun to make just anything and know I can find it a home! So tiny happy scraps become... a needlebook. Because everyone who sews can use a needlebook, I wager.

Miss Needlebook for a camper

The little urchin gracing the front is from "So Happy Kids".  I can't get enough of her, so please excuse the numerous photographs!  I took my color direction from the Put a Lid on It dishes scrap and added in pieced scrap trimmings from Oodalolly to round out the front.

from the back

The other two scraps landed on the back with some colorful Remix business.

the inside

Did you notice the vine-y quilting?  I followed the pattern on the green vine print from Nicey Jane that I used for the inside.  That was fun!  At first I was going to free motion it, but then realized that it was easier for me to follow the pattern with my feed dogs up.

On the inside of my needlebook are two large pockets for misc supplies and a felt page for holding those needles.

in binding scraps

After quilting and layering the pocket, I sewed the felt page in.  Last of all, I bound her up with binding scraps, sandwiching in a bit of pearl cotton thread to use for closure, along with a button I'd rescued from some doomed piece of clothing.  I didn't follow any one tutorial, but did get ideas from the many tutorials linked up on this page.

recent stitches

And, actually, I've been embroidering lately, to keep my hands busy while I settle on a new big handwork project.  It just so happens I could use a book like this... But, ya know, I truly enjoy making things to give more than keeping them.  If I make them to give I have a reason to make many more!  Two more needlebooks are in the works!

recovered my board!

In other news, I recovered my ironing board, which had become sadly browned from use.  Tutorial here.

Miss Needlebook, not a Wallflower

Aw, doesn't Miss Needlebook look cute on that Amy Butler Wallflower print?  Yep, everything does.

Pezzy rainbow up next....

So... next up (besides the needlebooks) is another gifty project made with a rainbow of Pezzy Prints.  Now I must warn you that pezzy prints are so mesmerizing that they caused me to miss an important meeting last night.  Oops.

Please try to sew responsibly.
