Patio Patchwork
Eeeeee! I’m so excited to start sharing sneak peaks of my 2026 block of the month program. I know that it’s not even November yet, but I just can’t wait a moment longer.
This is Patio! It’s one of many patchwork “groups” in the sampler quilt I’ve created for us to sew in 2026. Of course, this is no ordinary sampler with a predictable grid and same-sized blocks. Instead the quilt is made up of diverse patchwork groups, which flow into each other to create an exciting energy.
I’m really enjoying the sewing process! Since the entire sampler is based on color value, I am able to use a wide variety of fun fabrics, including scraps!! I’m noticing that I can use my low volume fabrics that have bits of color and print. That’s a category that I normally struggle with. And I can’t wait to use my dark value prints too. Those bring such drama.
The sewing itself ranges from easy-peasy, as with Patio. I mean, sewing hourglass blocks is just a simple pleasure, you know?
While other groups in the quilt will include bits of beginner-friendly foundation paper piecing, curves and minimal appliqué. I guess it’s like my other sampler quilts, haha.
Wow, value-based sewing really takes the fuss out of fabric choice. It’s the cumulative effect of the light/dark contrast that makes everything work. Each individual fabric almost doesn’t matter. All scraps welcome!
Ta da! So, Patio is actually three separate parts. I’ve just placed them beside each other for a fun photo. Since this group shows up in three places in the sampler quilt, it serves to unify, much like a musical riff.
Eager to see what comes next? Stay tuned! And if you already know that you want to sew along in 2026, you can sign up here to be the first to know when registration opens. Thanks, friends! xoxo
