the Positivities quilt
Positivities is a modern sampler quilt with themes of stars, squares and curves. I was inspired with Positivities to interweave many styles of patchwork in a modern, non-linear way and all floating on a consistent background color. The patchwork is designed to be sewn with a mixture of solids and scraps. With each patchwork group, the pattern will instruct you to use certain colors of the 9 base solids, plus a selection of scraps. The base solids ensure that the quilt has a sense of repetition and harmony, while the use of scraps makes every quilt unique. You can follow my palette, even using the exact same Tilda Solids for your base solids and scraps in the suggested colors. Or, take your own creative journey!
Unlike other sampler quilts, you won’t usually make just one block in each style. Instead, Positivities invites you to dig into shapes and repeat them for awhile, before moving onto something new. It’s a stimulation combination of novelty and repetition!
Stay inspired and creatively engaged in 2024. Especially if you have fabric scraps, this quilt is a chance to make a little patchwork magic.
Yes, Positivities is definitely scrap friendly. Right from the start you’ll get a master list of scraps to cut, should you like to work ahead!
Skill level: Suitable for intermediate quilters. During the course of the year, you will learn techniques for strip piecing, foundation paper piecing, simple curved seams and partial seams. No prior experience with these techniques is assumed. Pattern club includes detailed directions. Advanced quilters will also enjoy the journey!

the Block-of-the-Month Club
Positivities 2024 BOM is a steady stream of patchwork fun. Sew-along with us as we bring this modern sampler quilt to life, sewing group by group of beautifully interwoven patchwork throughout 2024.
The block-of-the-month is thoughtfully paced with two months set aside for assembly (June and December). Expect to sew the equivalent of two to three 12” blocks per month. Much of the sewing is traditional piecing, but we’ll also use special techniques in their simplest forms. If you've never foundation pieced or worked with curved seams, this is a great way to get a taste for these skills without committing to a large, repetitive project. Gradually your quilting skills build, along with your modern sampler!
For example, each of these patchwork groups is a single month’s task. With Expansion I introduce foundation paper piecing. The technique is experienced here in its simplest form, ideal for beginners. North Star is our block for learning curved piecing. There are only 8 curved seams in total to sew for North Star. That’s enough to practice while avoiding burn-out, since your pace is likely slow at the beginning. There are a total of 3 months with curved piecing in this quilt, and we always use pins. Beginners, you can do this!
Each month in 2024, you’ll receive an email to download the digital pattern booklet. Also expect tips for making effective fabric and/or color choices with our patchwork ensemble. Plus, I’ll share examples from our Positivities community, because there are lots of wonderfully different ways to create something beautiful!
How does it work?
Club members receive monthly installments of original, digital patterns designed for the Positivities quilt. All patterns are PDF’s and printable on standard paper.

For example, after sewing the Kaleidoscope group, you’ll have all the skills to sew this dramatic throw quilt called Kaleidoscope Groove. The Kaleidoscope Groove quilt pattern will deliver to club-members in February. All spin off patterns are brand new and currently only available to club members. Soon I’ll be starting to sew the spin-off quilt inspired by Sunbeams + Flutters. Can’t wait! Look out for that bonus pattern with your April club delivery.
