Fair Isle progress

Time for a Fair Isle update. With the help of the members of Comfort circle, do. Good Stitches, I’m sewing a child-sized Fair Isle quilt made up of Penny Sampler blocks. In January I made the diamond and squares rows. Since then I’ve received lots of blocks from my bee mates. How do they look?

I think it’s quite cheery and fun! It’s destined to be donated via Salvation Army to a child in need.

I did change the quilt layout, since I must have mixed up the gray background colors when I communicated with my bee mates. I’m in the process of making more clover blocks to fill out the row of clovers. Here are my fabric choices for the new clover sprouts.

These clovers are foundation paper pieced, like most Penny Sampler blocks. The process takes time, but the results are charming. I finished two today and have two more to go!

Then I also need to whip up some miniature plus blocks, using those happy colored scraps currently floating under the clovers.

A bright, colorful quilt like this is certainly a strong contrast to the white, winter wonderland we’ve been enjoying this month.

Sled through the forest.jpg

Last week, when the snow was still thick, my family enjoyed a walk through the woods nearby. I was surprised by how easily a sled glides atop the packed snow. Definitely the way to travel with a small child in the snow! Must be why so many Dutch people have these pretty sleds. We borrowed ours from a neighbor, haha, that and a snow shovel.

Have a great weekend, friends!
