Do you enjoy the final steps of quilt-making? Basting. Quilting. Binding.
I used to dread attaching the binding on quilts. I tried hand-sewing, but it was too slow for my tastes. The next project beckoned! I tried machine-sewing with a straight stitch, but despite different techniques the stitches would look rather messy on one side.
One day I decided to attach the binding by machine with a zigzag stitch. And that was that! The stitch looks neat on both sides, easily catches the binding, goes on fast and is durable too. You can find my tutorial for zigzag quilt binding right here.

Nowadays binding is no sweat. I’m lucky to enjoy all steps of the quilt-making process. Here I’m pinning the binding in place, in preparation for the final zigzag stitch. Excited to see this finished!
Today I’m putting the finishing touches on my Seafarers quilt and also on the Seafarers quilt pattern. Pattern release is slated for this Friday, August 7th.
I think this quilt is unique, so I’m hoping the pattern is well-received. The digital pattern is going to be more than 30 pages, including as it does five distinct foundation paper pieced blocks. Fingers crossed it is used and enjoyed by many!
p.s. Penny Sampler club members will also receive the stand-alone version of the Seafarers pattern. At this point, you already have all the materials, but I realize it might be nice to have them in this collated format. Look out for that extra download with your September club delivery.
