motion and meaning

Some designs choose you.  Sometimes you have only to give them birth: to do the maths, to cut and sew the fabrics, to write the pattern because you could not do otherwise, you could not abandon the dream of it or fail in your role to bring it to others.

The design of this quilt seized me when I first spotted it here, wanting to be birthed in cotton and thread.  I'm very grateful for the inspiration to make it my own with a Still Point.  The smaller you make the photograph or the farther back you step from the quilt top, the more that quiet, still point stands out, with the color change radiating from its otherness.

With the quilt top done, I am going to focus today on pattern-making.  By the time it's quilted and done, I'll be publishing this as a stand-alone pattern in my shop.  I'm certain this design will claim a few more souls, destined to craft a Still Point or some other iteration of these kaleidoscope-like blocks full of motion and meaning.
