my toes were dreaming

Not all projects meet a glorious end.  Not all ideas work.  Or, even if they do work, not all inspire my time and attention.  You know what I mean.

Long, long ago I pinned this breathtaking rug.  My toes were dreaming.  It's called a Pinocchio rug by its makers at Hay.  Composed entirely of felted wool balls, this baby is p-r-i-c-e-y.  Even buying up the felt balls and making my own is well beyond my budget.

So I got to thinking about how I could make something similar out of fabric.  Because I have fabric!   I decided to use my baby Go! cutter to cut small circles, machine sew them mostly closed, stuff with fill, hand sew them completely closed and then join them together.  My vision was of soft, squishy ovals with little gaps between them.   Could it work?

On my way to Charlotte to visit Ikea this weekend, I rode in the car for almost 2 hours - an ideal time to test the project.

Well, this is how far I got after over an hour and a half of stitching.  Yes, it would work; but, no, I did not want to sign up for the marathon assignment.  Remember that mile long list?  I didn't want baby to show up and find a fantabulous rug underneath his or her crib.... but no crib sheets, no curtains, no bibs, no mama-made toys.  Priorities, people!

And then I bought a rug at Ikea.  Done and done.
