Woa my gosh am I behind on sharing the covered journals! I've been making them in batches and just can't seem to stop. Which is, of course, a good thing since the craft show is now less than a month away. Prepared to be inundated...
Berry Picking. Strips leftover from my Berry Picking bundle were pieced in staggered columns to create diagonal patchwork. Then I cut the work as a rectangle to make this covered journal.
Velvet Summerlove. More scraps put to good use! Some pieced Summerlove prints were married to an Anna Maria Horner velveteen scrap that Holly gave me last fall. Gloriously tactile.
Oodalolly Reformed no. 3. There's always more Oodalolly (seriously, there's still more). I broke out my rusty curves piecing for this one. And, that reminds me... I want to do some wall art along Oodalolly lines.
I often put something a little special on the inside flaps. Happy!
Circa 1934. This one still makes me laugh! One sleepless night craft show ideas ran laps in my brain. I decided to make a "boy" cover in Circa 1934 typewriter keys. In the light of day, the "boy" part met its demise. Hey, Mack, check it out: "dreams come true" "you inspire me" "I remember when"... aren't those your favorite sayings?
Filled with bravado after Triangle Colorstory, one day I
My first piecing storm created these chopped square-in-square blocks, reminiscent of flying geese. I wasn't a fan until I gave it a tilt. Look - I can use even more triangles (Kona Ash) this way!
Angling. Lots of Kona Ash, with a pretty little mini block on the inside cover.
Bottled Rainbows quilt along memories sparked some new raw edge applique. What a way to conquer the triangle! With applique, the fabric scraps are sewn right on top of a background fabric which allows me to use all kinds of random triangles without much fabric waste.
Shattered in Rainbow & Shattered in Earth. Appliqued with a machine blanket stitch. These are such a puzzle! I was pretty triangled-out after the rainbow version, as this style is certainly not fast. Then my friend Heather volunteered to lay out the earthy version. I sewed it up last night.
Triangle scraps have returned to their cave, slightly lessened but far from defeated.
So the official covered journal count is now 19! I was actually up to 21, but recently gave 2 away. Do you think this basket might be a nice way to display them on my (small) table? It holds 16 covers and isn't prone to tipping. I can't wait to do my full craft show display mock up, but first - more making!
