Curves + Stripes
I have something new to show you! It’s my month to lead the charity quilt for an EU circle of do. Good Stitches - Comfort circle. I joined this group in January, now that I’m settled into our life here. It’s good to be back at sewing quilts for others with pleasant company.
As a quilter in the group, I get to lead the monthly collaborative quilt, about twice a year. It’s a fun opportunity and there are lots of different ways to approach it. Sometimes I link to an existing tutorial or write a fresh tutorial one myself. This time I decided to choose something from a new book by Daisy Aschehoug of WarmFolk and Heather Black of Quilt-achussets - Quilt Modern Curves & Bold Stripes*.
This book definitely lives up to its title, with a clean, modern aesthetic. The 15 patterns included are a curated group, each combining stripes and curves in intriguing ways. Plus, the book begins with an extensive technique section, all very precise and info-rich.

I actually fell in love with one of the quilts on the cover. This is Concert. Isn’t it unique? I love the colors too. I requested and received permission from the authors to share the directions for the Concert block with my bee-mates. Yay!
I’ve called for solid white background fabric to keep things simple, since in do. Good Stitches we all sew with fabrics from our own stash. For the colored stripes, I’ve asked for blue, green and yellow. I’m imagining a fresh, springy palette, so I’ve asked them to avoid dark shades like navy, hunter green and teal.
Here are my blocks! I would say it is intermediate sewing. Mainly, you have to take care when cutting the striped quarter circles. Careful placement of the stripes allow them to meet when the drunkard’s path blocks are joined. Hopefully this will not be too fussy for my bee mates. Fingers crossed!
I should start receiving blocks from Comfort circle around the end of April. When the quilt is ready to come together, I’ll be sewing more blocks myself and sharing the progress with you. Looking forward to it.
