Economy Star Parade: Sew Inner Circle Blocks

This post is part of the Economy Block Parade Sew-Along! See all posts.

June is more than half way spent, and our quilt is likewise more than halfway grown. Have you noticed that this quilt is fun up close (with playful fussy cuts) and from afar as well (with the stars)? It’s a satisfying combination.

Are you sewing-along? Please share your progress pictures, wherever you are in the process, on Instagram with #EconomyStar. It really sustains momentum and spurs new ideas to see everyone else in the process. We can learn from each other, inspire each other and just generally have a good time!

It’s time for the Week 3 assignment!

Week 3: Sew Inner Circle blocks

This week our goal is to sew just 17 economy blocks for our 72” square throw-size quilt. It’s less blocks than the last two weeks, as I know we all have the most enthusiasm early on in the process. Your blocks this week will be standard economy blocks for the inner area of the Economy Star Parade quilt.

Not sure what I mean? Navigate to page 9 in your copy of the Economy Star Parade pattern, where you’l find the Quilt Map Key. Here you can see how the Star Parade is formed using different kinds of economy blocks. You’ll need 17 standard blocks to fill the area inside the pretty parade.

I have to confess, though, that this week I’m totally cheating. Bright and beautiful economy blocks have been arriving in my mail over the last week, sent from within The Netherlands and from the United Kingdom, all from fellow members of the do. Good Stitches sewing bee, Comfort circle.

These blocks were made by Muriël, Mary, Carol and Marilyn. You see, June is my month to lead the Comfort circle’s charity quilt. I figured it would be a fun project for our collective quilt, since everyone tends to enjoy fussy cutting fabrics for the ever-popular economy block. Thus, for our June project, I’ve sewn all the star-related blocks and my bee-mates are sewing many of the standard blocks. The finished quilt will be donated to a needy child in The Netherlands.

Arranged like this, the quilt seems to be bursting with energy! Fingers crossed that this bright, bold quilt hits the spot for a special someone.
