Strawberry Marissa Dress

Happy Monday! This is going to be a good week, I can feel it. Today the sun is shining and outside the trees and flowers are heralding spring, even if the temperatures are telling a different story.

Yesterday, when it was quite overcast, little miss braved the cool weather for a lightning fast photo op. We dashed out our front door, across to the road to the daffodils and were back inside in less than five minutes! Aren’t you glad she was a good sport?

Yay, a new dress! Once again I sewed the Marissa dress pattern from Sis Boom, my go-to Easter dress pattern. We opted for the usual modifications, including adding tulle and a lining to the skirt. That’s not at all hard to do! I share the how to’s for that modification in this blog post.

I’m pleased with the low-key contrast of the Tilda Cloudpie fabric waistband on this Heather Ross strawberry fabric. It adds subtle definition. The pattern is not written with a pieced bodice back, but I prefer to continue the contrast all the way around the bodice, like so. Since the bodice is already lined, piecing the contrast waistband into the back bodice is another easy pattern modification.

Easter is just a few weeks away! The weather will certainly still be cool, so she’ll also wear a cardigan, don’t worry. I went with a sleeveless dress anyways, because they’re more fun to sew and she has outgrown most every one from last year.

Hmm - - - I’m sure I’ll sew this pattern again, but perhaps it is time to mix things up by using a different fabric substrate. I’ve always wanted to sew her a dress in the confetti-style tulle stocked at Sojo Fabric. It’s so Elora! I wonder if a Marissa dress could work with the tulle?
