Drummer Boy Dresdens: Week 7

Drummer Boy Dresdens.png

Ok, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to last. I’m tempted to jump in and just finish this quilt! I want to see these scrappy fun blocks all together and discover how it’s turned out. Working without a design wall feels a bit like working in the dark.

Maybe this week will go incredibly smoothly and I’ll be able to have a finished top by next week? There’s no harm in dreaming!

Are you sewing along? Then don’t forget to follow our weekly sponsor to make sure you’re eligible for the prize. I draw a random picture each week tagged with #DrummerBoyDresdens to choose the lucky winner.

This week the prize is a $35 gift certificate to @TheConfidentStitch.

Week 7 Goal

25 Dresden Fans

We’re polishing off the first step. This week, create 25 more lovely fans. By week-end, you should have all 100 Dresden fans joined and pressed. We’re almost there! If need be, reference the how to’s in our Week 1 post to refresh your memory or consult your copy of the Drummer Boy Dresdens quilt pattern.

Dresden chaining. Stitched in Color.jpg

I sat down the other day to chain-piece all of my remaining dresden blade wedges. My toddler, Elora, loves to handle fabrics, and who can blame her? This was perfect because she could hand me dresden blades in any order and it was always “right”. After a bit I started telling her the color of each piece as she handed it over. When I named the bright Add it Up fabric “yellow”, she proclaimed “banana!”. It made me smile.

Today I’ve finished joining all my blades as dresden fans. Soon they’ll be pressed and trimmed and ready to become blocks.
