Moving In

Today I had the very unglamorous task of hemming eight curtains.  Okay, okay, technically I had finished two yesterday, but it still felt like eight today.  Is hemming curtains the most boring sewing I've ever done?  Quite possibly.  (Which is why I politely decline when asked if I hem pants or could be hired to make curtains.  Do you get asked too?  I bet you do.)

Anyhoo, the good news is the curtains are up and we're moved in!  We moved in earlier this week to our new master bedroom.  I promised to show the pics when we did, so...

Here is the view from the door.  It's a rectangular room with space for a seating area, a modest bathroom and walk in closet.  It's been a long time since we had our own bathroom or a roomy closet, so everything feels quite luxurious at the moment.

I love the blue walls!  Brandon chose the color:  Roadster Blue from Valspar.  I was afraid it would be too dark, but with the bamboo floors and all the windows in this room, it's turned out smashing!  I'd like to make a mostly white/cream quilt for our bed.  Don't you think that would be a lovely pop in the space?

Behind the seating area, along the longest wall of the room, is this gigantic window.  I don't have the right lense to capture it properly, but it's twice the width of what you see here.  We chose windows to match the style of the rest of our house, since this is an addition.  Happily the new master looks onto the forest side of our property.  I also love that through the narrow window above our bed I can spy our old barn, which I use so often for quilt photography!

Those are the aforementioned curtains.  They're just light gray linen curtains from Ikea.  Because the window is so wide, I needed four curtains to span it.  They were too lightweight to darken the room nicely, so I also bought four Ikea curtain liners.  Yep, that's eight curtains to hem, people.  And I'm done.

In our master bathroom we put down the same bamboo floors as in the rest of our house and purchased all fixtures and furniture from Ikea (I'm a hopeless fan, if you don't know that by now).  This rug was a happy accident, originally purchased for the entry.

I'm kind of proud of myself for managing to stick to a white and black color scheme.  Oh, now, the towels don't count!  And that soap dispenser will be clear soon enough.  But, really, it's so WHITE!  Brandon was very confused about this choice to forgo color, but I am digging it.  I plan to make a white/black patchwork piece for the walls.  I've been pinning them lately!

Now that we're in the master, I can breathe a bit easier and start nesting.  Because the old master needs some repairs before it can be made up as the new nursery, I'm setting up the changing table in the corner of our room for now and will be finding a place for the rocker too.   Next up Brandon will finish my sewing room.  And then the fun really begins...

p.s. Thanks for all the name suggestions!  You guys are way better than a baby name book.  Our group think landed on pretty much every name Brandon and I have been considering (even the ones we don't agree upon) as well as yielded a few new possibilities.
