April in Quilter's Color Quest

This month in Quilter’s Color Quest we’re enjoying chapters three, four and five in The Quilter’s Field Guide to Color: A Hands-on Workbook for Mastering Fabric Selection. I’ve already shared my exercises for Emotions and Color Wheel. Let’s take a moment to see what you’ve been up to!

Follow #QuiltersColorQuest on Instagram to enjoy a wealth of examples of the exercises from the book worked out in color and cloth.

for the Emotions Challenge - - - pg. 34-35

Natalie of Sew Hungry Hippie started us off during the book hop in the month of February. She didn’t identify the emotions in her block. What do you see?

Sewing your emotions is great therapy, even if the blocks that you create aren't your favorite. Taking the time to identify how you feel and express that in any way, whether with words or art, helps you become more centered. It can even lead to a peaceful acceptance and internal grace. I am proud of our community for bravely exploring emotions in the midst of this pandemic. Thank you for opening up your heart to others by sharing these exercises!

Here are some examples from our community:

for the Color Wheel Challenge - - - pg 42-43

One of my first quilting heroes, Ashley @FilmintheFridge started us off during the book hop with a glorious collection of blocks inspired by the Color Wheel challenge.

If you’re following along with Quilter’s Color Quest, you will just be getting started on your Color Wheel exercise. Next week I’ll be prompting the final exercise of the month - Rainbow Blends - with a post of my own. For a sneak peak, check out this scrappy blend made by Allison Harris @CluckCluckSew during our book blog hop. Fun!

Balance Your Stash

Each month during Quilter’s Color Quest, I will create a custom bundle with one of my fantastic sponsor shops. Here’s the idea - as you get to know color better, you often realize that your stash could use some balancing. Do you enjoy my eye for color or fabrics? Cool! Then, these bundles are a convenient and inspiring way of filling those holes in your stash.

Aaaaaand, each month the 16-piece, fat quarter custom bundle also serves as the prize for one lucky participant in Quilter’s Color Quest. Each photo you post to Instagram with #QuiltersColorQuest enters you to win the monthly giveaway. So, go out there and do the work! There are lots of good reasons to enjoy this process together.

For April I’ve divided the 16-piece prize into two separate bundles, each available now at Sojo Fabric. The winner will get both the analogous and complementary bundles. Here goes:

Summer Pickings

The Analogous Bundle

Summer Pickings began with the green, yellow and orange Rifle Paper Co. fabrics from their Primavera collection. I love these elegant, fruity fabrics and realized they featured colors next to each other on the color wheel.

To complete my analogous bundle, I added orange, yellow and green helpful fabrics with a variety of geometric motifs. The mixture of artistic natural motifs and simple dots, stripes and curves is my kind of happy!

Red + Aqua Farmstand

The Complementary Bundle

At this time of year, a strongly complementary bundle can feel a little jolting. I opted for a soft complementary scheme, combining true red with a gentle, minty aqua-green.

The hexagon print was my starting point. It reminds me of something you’d find in a vintage farmhouse, and Sojo also had these fun chicken and sheep prints. Sprinkles of pale fabrics to keep things light and airy. Altogether my Red + Aqua Farmstand bundle has a classic, vintage flavor.

Our lucky winner will be chosen at random on May 1st. I will use Instagram messaging to be in touch to organize shipping of the prize.

Thanks for supporting my sponsor, Sojo Fabric!
