Elora, 1 month

Elora, one month

This month baby is photographed on Sprinkle in Pick Up Truck from Mad About Patchwork in Canada!  I love the Sprinkle prints by Cotton & Steel, which come in several lovely shades.  It's such a great basic, as is their newest basic called Add It Up.

Elora, one month

Today baby Elora is one month old!  She was acting sleepy when I first lay her down on this festive holiday red, but she soon perked up to show off her personality...

Elora, one month

Already she is such an expressive baby.  And it may still be the newborn phase, but she also seems to be rather easy going.   When she wakes up to eat, she will happily chill with whomever will hold her until I am ready to feed her.  She just wants to be held while she waits.  How agreeable!

Elora, one month

Oh, those precious little feet!

Elora, one month

And all these happy faces!

Elora, one month

What a delight she is for us all.

Memory Box {One Month}

Milestones:  Tracking!  A few days after birth Elora visually followed a light-up rattle (Mr. Noggin) moved slowly in front of her face.  She's tracking people and toys now.  I am so happy for her that she can see!

Biggest Challenge:  Diaper rash. This little one is fairer than my other children and seems to have quite sensitive skin.  We tried seven diaper creams before finding something that seems to help. But it may be the twice daily baths that have really been key.  Lots of warm soaks and kicking around diaper-free when she's awake have finally turned the tide on that nasty rash.

Best Surprise:  So many pleasant faces and even smiles!  I didn't expect such a happy baby.

Special Memory:   Singing Christmas carols to her while she soaks in her bath.  I love carols and am glad to have an excuse to sing all of them this year!

  3. Ah, this brings back memories. I remember well how my babies would love that freedom when they were without diapers. Their legs would start kicking and they were so animated. How sweet. Love Elora's pudgy, tiny toes. Merry Christmas Rachel!

  4. Thank you for sharing your sweet baby (especially for those of us without babies in our lives...only single adult children!). Diaper-free certainly helps, lots of airing out to keep her dry. I too see a bit of Eleni in Elora, around the mouth. Enjoy the holidays with your charming little, and big, ones.

  5. I don't usually comment but what a wonderful post, so happy to see the joy in your photos. In regards to the diaper rash, look for a cream with coconut oil infused with calendula and shea butter. You can make your own (pinterest has lots of recipes) and it is great for my sensitive baby's tush.

  9. Oh, these pictures make me so happy for you all :-)
Bordeaux's Butt Paste (with a few drops of lavender essential oil mixed into the tub) worked wonders for sore bottoms in my house.
A homemade coconut oil based salve worked fabulously as a preventative, but on the rare occasion that we ended up w redness, the Butt Paste beat it hands down
    Merry Christmas, Rachel!! Tracy

Re the rash, it's a bit late now, but cloth/ wool diapers seem to be great against rashes, too.

  29. My daughter's tendency for diaper rash turned out to be a mild soy allergy. Something to look out for as you Introduce food - my doc seemed to think sensitive skin was linked to her allergies. We like cjs butter which is very expensive but lasts!

  35. If it helps, Maalox was the only thing ever worked on my babies. Let the bottle settle. Pour off the liquid on top and then use the paste that remains as a cream. I'm told those rashes are caused by yeast and that's why they don't respond to the usual creams. It was miraculous for us and everyone we've shared it with. Good luck!

  41. My youngest daughter was got terrible diaper rash when using disposable diapers. I had to use cloth diapers and even then trial and error with which detergent she wasn't allergic to. I had to wash her diapers in baby detergent and then wash a second time with only vinegar to get the remaining soap out.

  52. She's so beautiful, Rachel! And although she is fairer and perhaps has less hair, I can see a resemblance to Eleni. Sweet girls, both your babies. I am so glad this time around is more relaxed and enjoyable.
