Eleni, 2 months

Eleni, 2 months

Eleni, 2 months

I got the idea from my friend, Ara Jane, to document my baby's growth on a fresh yard of fabric every month.  Pretty fabric + pretty baby = what's not to love?  Here are Eleni's 2 month photos on Anna Maria Horner's Folk Song, Dusk Baby Bouquet.  The colors quite suit her, I think!

Eleni's had a busy week.  You can see in the second photo her g-tube tubing extending to the bottom right.  On Tuesday she had that tubing exchanged for a flat "button" that hides easily under clothing via an outpatient surgery.  We are still getting used to using the new button, but it is at the very least more comfortable for Eleni.  So that's key.

Today I'm feeling blue because baby failed a swallow test, her first.  Using an x-ray machine, the speech therapist worked to see what would happen if Eleni was given liquids by mouth.  Unfortunately, she either just let them dribble out or aspirated.  Both Eleni and I were pretty bummed by the whole experience.  We're also getting over a cold.  Yes, that's super bad timing, but the test was not something we could easily reschedule.  So, blah and bah humbug.

At times like this, it can be helpful to remember how far we've come...

  11. She's beautiful. Especially love the last two photos - so much love!

I have a friend whose son went through the tummy tubes and swallowing stuff, along with a slew of other issues, if you wanted someone to talk to about it. You know, someone who you could really relate to.

  16. Thank you for sharing your beautiful family and the medical situation with your baby. I believe this helps so many people who are either dealing with the same thing, or maybe they know someone who is, perhaps a grandchild as well. Knowledge is power. It helps to see others sharing this path, it educates us who need educating, and it gives a voice to these types of medical situations. I send you my best wishes and continued prayers for your baby, you and your husband and children and your family and friends.

I have a 16 year old great niece who had similar medical issues...you would not know that today! I can only imagine the progress made in the years since she was also fed by a tube. Wishing you the very best! Sue.

  19. Too bad about the swallowing test--but don't despair--it's still early days. She seems to be doing so much--lifting her head and so on--that seems like progress.

Life does not always end up the way we wanted/planned/counted on, does it? I can tell you are strong and I know you will one day look back on this time and accept it for the gift it truly is. 60. My niece has documented her sons' growth with a card in each month's photo showing 1-month, 2-months, 3-months, etc. It's fun now when she lines up the two boys' photos (and she's expecting a girl later in the year) . . .

  68. What a thoughtful and inquisitive face she has in that last photo! I wonder what must have caught her eye when you took it. :) I'm amazed at how much she's grown too. These photos will be such a great way to document that. I can image how much you'll both cherish them too once she's grown up.

  69. Lovely photos of Eleni and all the family. Your fabric comment reminded me of a friend who took a photo every week, then later monthly, of her baby and a large stuffed toy. When she shared the photos on her blog we could see how big the baby/child was growing over time. I always thought it was a good idea and wished I'd thought of it years ago :)

BTW, I love the photo of you and Eleni-she's looking straight at the camera, even though she's obviously tired. It's good that she's so curious to know what's going on around her-she'll learn quickly. She's very beautiful, but then,so are your other two. You're very lucky .X Beth (UK)
