thank-you for Auction for Eleni!

It has been two very long weeks (feels more like two months) since Eleni was born.  What should have been a peaceful, sweet time has been fraught with worry, stress and heartbreak.  But it has also been a time enveloped by such an outpouring of love, prayer and encouragement both online and in our local community.   And we are thankful, so thankful, for you.

We are also terribly thankful for the Auction for Eleni effort, even if it is a little awkward to talk about money-related things here.  The auction begins tomorrow, Saturday the 14th and ends on Sunday the 15th.  Your generosity in donating auction items amazes me - so many special fabrics, gorgeous fabric stacks, lovingly made quilts and handmade items.  I want to show off some of the amazing items up for grabs in this space to be sure they get the attention they deserve.  Of course, this is just a sampling!  I couldn't include all the wonderful donations in this post.

There are a host of beautiful fabric bundles, donated by quilt shops and individuals:

You'll find handmade items:

Quilts of all sizes (mini's too!):

And some rare, hard-to-find fabrics being de-stashed in such a kind way:

In addition to tangible items, there are gift certificates to Sew Modern and Jones & Vandermeer, a listing for a custom single quilt and for a long arm quilting job.

The auction is occurring on Instagram this weekend, and you do need an Instagram account to bid, as far as I understand.  Though if you have a good friend already on Instagram, maybe he or she could bid on your behalf.  Most, if not all, listings show a starting bid and shipping info.

We are told that Eleni will likely be in the NICU for another two weeks, at least.  The doctors can't tell us much of anything for certain, least of all the big, important things we worry about most.  When we're at our best, we take it one day at a time and leave the future to itself.  Grace, strength and hope for the day at hand

xo,

Rachel

  2. Sending you lots of love and good wishes, Rachel. May Eleni be very mildly affected by her illness, and may you all be lovingly supported as you move forward. You are one of my favorite blogging "friends" - someone I feel connected to despite never having actually meeting. I have been reading your posts with deep sadness.

I love that someone has come up with this auction event to support you and your family, both financially and I imagine it serves to really lift your spirits as well.

I don't have an Instagram account. I think I will have to set one up just so i can participate!

    lots of love, Liz

    1. also: I am going to try to bid on some things. I am not too good at instagram and online stuff (getting oldish) but the offerings are wonderful. Very tempting.
I know this auction will be a success.

  12. The love you feel is very real. We are all rooting for Eleni and for the entire family. Eleni has you for parents and this gives her a great gift in this world. You and your family have Eleni and she is a gift to all of you. I know I had to struggle wondering about many of the same questions that you are, as did my best friend, as do many of us. Unfortunately, we can't sway any outcomes with our worries and fears. So, I just want to say that I, and my best friend, and the many of us out there, no matter what the answers turned out to be for all these hard, big questions, we will all agree that our child is a great gift in our lives. Our eyes shine as we point out their accomplishments, our hearts nearly burst as they face new challenges. Eleni has been born into a place of love, with a parent who can inspire love in people who are thousands of miles away, many who haven't even actually met her. Eleni was born into a family of love, a father who will protect and support, siblings who will help every inch of the way, and a Mother who will do all things to make sure she is the best that she can be. And she will be great :)
