Folksy Fall {a mosaic contest}

Folksy Fall {a mosaic contest}

Slow down a minute, my friend, and ponder with me in color...

Once upon a time I met folksy fabric, in the way of some very Good Folks.  It was love on first sight with those free colors, those elegant lines and layers upon layers of pattern.

If I could wave a magical wand, this would be my nursery!   Something about fall, with the return of warm earthy browns and somber storm grays, reminds me how dearly I feel all the nuanced colors of rich folk art.

And the textures.

And the cheerful whimsy they exude.

Folksy Fall is ripples of muted rainbow worked in winding cotton.  Soft felted wool births tapestries of colorful art.  In between the lengthening nights, as the world outside grows increasingly dull, all the colors still glimmer like jewels in wise old hands.

And in young hands too, the folk arts are reborn!  Full of details, full of skill, it's brilliant color tempered with ages of love.

I invite you to join us for a Fabric Mosaic contest sponsored by The Intrepid Thread.

Carefully craft your mosaic of 12 fabrics from among the offerings at The Intrepid Thread.  Choose fabrics to express your interpretation of Folksy Fall.  Your collection of fabrics can be pretty, funky, dramatic or totally playful.  Just make sure to include a variety of colors complimented by some rich fall neutrals - browns, grays or navy blue.

Once you have your fabrics, the free Mosaic Maker tool makes it a snap to create a mosaic by copy and pasting image url's from The Intrepid Thread.  To find url's first go to the item page, then right click on the image you want and choose "copy image URL".

To enter the contest, add your mosaic image to our collection here.  If it suits you, link to a blog post explaining your choices - that helps us spread the word about our contest.  But no blog post is required (you can put your image url in the url space).  Anyone can enter, anywhere in the world.

***New Tip*** If possible, share your mosaic so that when it's loaded to the link up and you click on your mosaic, it takes viewers to see a larger version. This makes it so much easier for me to see your mosaic and consider it as a finalist!  Hosting your mosaic in a public place (such as Flickr or a blog) and linking the URL works beautifully!

Add your mosaic by midnight October 12th.  You can make up to 2 mosaics!  On Monday the 13th, I'll open voting.   We'll have two winners!  The 2 Top Mosaics will earn a complete fat quarter set of their mosaic fabrics!!!  Plus, The Intrepid Thread will create a bundle like yours available for others to buy.  Winners announced October 16th.  Enjoy!

    1. I'm glad to see it here! Since Facebook is a private place, when we click on your mosaic it does not allow us to see the larger version, FYI. If you share it somewhere public, like Flickr, we will be able to see it bigger. Just wanted you to know!

    2. Sorry Rachel, I uploaded it to Flickr and linked in again but now it won't let me delete the first version of it that I linked in. It's a calamity of errors. :)
