twelve too many

Hourglass coasters

Hourglass coasters

I don't think I'd cut it on an assembly line.  I made some funny mistakes in the making of these that would make you wonder... Like cutting all my backings and battings a bit larger than the tops and quilting my first coaster as if I were going to bind it like a quilt.

Too many quilts!  I'm on auto pilot now.

But now they're finished.  All prettily quilted and edge stitched in Aurifil 12 wt, a thicker thread for a chunky finish.  I use the 12 wt in top and bobbin, on a 90/14 topstitching needle.  Works a charm for straight quilting.  So that I can sleep at night, all of the linen seams are reinforced with edge stitching.  These babies should endure!

Ta da!   Twenty-four coasters.  Hmm... do these look like re-positional quilt blocks to anyone else?  Endless hours of arranging.  Could be fun.

Well, I've decided to keep 12, so we'll be stocked in bookmarks and under-sofa clutter for years to come.  That still leaves 12 to go.  I'd like to gift the remaining sets of six to two dear readers.

We have the sweet, spring set:

And a warm and toasty fall ensemble:

I just journeyed back a few clicks to last Friday's post and thought how pleased I'd be to surprise some kind commenters with coasters, but the pesky logistics got in my way.  That and the nagging reality that not everyone wants or needs these particular coasters.

SO.

#1  Would you like these particular coasters?  Really!  Which set?

#2  Are you one of the kind souls who commented on last Friday's "when I am alone" post or otherwise have been following this blog for some time?

Because if so, I'd like to send you ALL a present... but today I have a thank-you gift for a lucky two.  I'll ask each winner to send me $2 by Paypal to make it easy for me to ship these right from my home, if that's ok with  you.  If that's not convenient, I'll find another way.  If someone across the seas wins, we'll work that out too.

Hoping you know how much I appreciate you!

xo,

Rachel

Edited to add:  Will choose two random winners on Saturday morning-ish!

*********************

Updated Saturday Morning:  I had to stop the giveaway so quickly because it's already  frustrating that I don't have 30 sets of coasters to giveaway.  I would gladly send them to any of you!

These "twelve too many" will be journeying to the homes of Lisa (comment 13) and Andrea (comment 35).

Thank-you!

  1. Yes, I'd love them! Either set - I like them the same. Been following you on bloglovin' for a while now - did your penny patch quilt a long awhile back as my FIRST quilt! :)

  2. They are really lovely. Would love either set to come to my home, as would my toddler, as he has had way too much luck destroying my cork coasters, these look a bit more indestructible. :)

  3. I'd love either set of these. They are super cute, and I need some new coasters.

  4. I love both sets. I'm also a long time follower and commented last week. I wish I had more time to make coasters. I know my Lu would have a blast playing with them in her kitchen.

  5. The coasters are lovely, the fall set would go very nicely with my orange walls :) I didn't comment on your alone post, but I have been following for awhile and took your first curves class - so awesome! Thank you always Rachel for sharing!

  6. I love both, and have been praying for both hope and peace. So many women share your struggle. Thank you for your transparency.

  9. Rachel, these coasters are so cute! I love how you arranged them into a quilt ~ I would love to have either set :) I have been following you on Bloglovin' for awhile now (I cannot begin to tell you how inspiring you are) and took your Color Intensive class (which was amazing!) that taught me so much about color and fabric selection. I also made an adorable skirt for my daughter in your Flirting the Issue skirt sew-a-long (and she wore it!) and commented on your Friday post! -xo

  12. Love your coasters (especially the Spring set) as well as your idea to rearrange them into patterns. Keep at the good work.

  13. I would love either set but I really like the Spring set. I have been a follower (stalker) of yours for a long long time. You have inspired me to make several throw sized quilts so winning something made my you would be an honor!

  14. I love those coasters. I really like both sets, but i probably gravitate towards the fall colors. I haven't had much sewing time lately with my new job. I have been following you for a while, and dream of the day when I can make a quilt. I did comment last week. I hope your spirits have picked up a bit.

  16. love that you were going to quilt and bind these but they've worked out beautifully - I've love the fall collection - they are so cute ! I read your post last week so hope you're feeling a bit happier - making 24 coasters would have taken your mind off anything (maybe that was the goal :) ) anyhoo, love your work and love your posts !

  18. Your coasters are very sweet! I read your post and my heart went to you but words failed me. I couldn't possibly have comforted you with a comment and sent prayers instead.

  19. They are beautiful. I love that you are gifting them this way. I am not asking to be in the running, however; since I will be relocating next year, I need to reduce and not accumulate--cute as they are. :-)

I just wanted to post because I do follow you, but I don't post nearly as often as I read. So this just seemed like a good time (and a good excuse) to let you know how much I (still) appreciate you and your wonderful blog.

I also am glad you feel free enough to share what is going on in your life outside of quilting. Wishing you all the best!

  20. I make it a practice to never comment on a personal blog post. Its so hard to getemotion across in a comment and i would hate for my comment to read wrongly. However. I have followed you for a long time now. And would love to own the fall colrway

  21. I just have to say they are adorable and will make someone sooo happy. I definitely want to do something similar with my scraps. (PS I wouldn't be a good home for these so skip me)

  22. I would be a good home for a set. Both sets are lovely, so either would be great.
I am a regular follower of your blog. I didn't comment on your "alone" piece but I did read it with interest.
The linen is a great with these prints. Love linen! Love your colors.

  23. These are such happy little coasters! I would love it if the spring set would find its' way here...or the fall ;). I did comment on your alone post and it has stuck with me- the waking in the middle of the night stuff is never fun- doing it here too for different reasons. I keep reminding myself that everything looks better in the morning! On a good note, I just made a second skirt from the skirt along and have had two friends ask me to make skirts for each of them! I see lots of elastic in my future! :)

  24. Awesome! Either set would work for me, they are beautiful!

  25. love it and I can set you need a course in logistics! I did a course in statistics and most of the time I get it, but there is that odd time of two and yes I have mini table runners, square table toppers, and my friends and neighbors are delighted! I like your logistics!

  26. #1. fall #2. yes and yes #3 I hope you are finding peace

  27. I am, and have been for the longest time now, a regular reader. Sometimes I comment; most times I don't. If, and that is a BIG if, I were chosen, the Fall colored set speaks to me. They would be right at home in my living room.

  28. I'm fairly new to the blog but it has become one of my favorites. I appreciate your honesty and taste. I saw your post but didn't comment. I know so many people in your situation. There never seems to be an appropriate response... I like both palettes but am somewhat partial to fall. Thanks for the opportunity.

  29. I would love either set. I didn't comment last week but only because I didn't have the right words. After a year and a half of trying for our first (19 months now) I know the agony of the waiting game.

  30. I have been reading your blog for some time now, following the ups and downs of painting, and reversal surgery, and Easter dresses, and your beautiful property! I have never commented, because I tend to lurk... But I did want to say, whether I get the coasters or not, that you inspire me, in both your color sense (I LOVED that sugar plum fairy quilt!) and lifestyle, and I am praying for another child for you. sarah@forrussia.org

  35. These coasters are super cute! I think I gravitate more towards the fall set for my living room color scheme. I've been following your blog for a couple of years. I also took your Color Intensive class and loved it. I pray regularly for you and your family. The Father knows and has perfect timing for this new baby to come your way.

  37. I didn't post last Friday, as we were preparing for our daughter's wedding and I'm just now getting back to the land of "normal". I've been reading your post for a few years, and honestly wished I had read "When I am alone" last week. I, like Michelle, am a "quiet follower". So many people are praying for y'all! I will be checking In more often now!

The quilted coasters are simply adorable! Especially the Spring!

  38. I think they're both darling. Maybe the fall first? I've read that post several times. I've still got it tabbed. It's really making me think.

  39. I love your coasters, either set! They are so pretty, and if I were t a craft show, I would easily buy these! I've been so busy I haven't been checking blogs like I should, so I'm off to read last Friday's post right now.
