Welcome, Fabricworm + Giveaway!

fabricworm, n. 1. a person devoted to fabric.  No, you're not the only one!

I'm thrilled to welcome Fabricworm as a brand new sponsor for Stitched in Color!  Their impressive selection of fabrics, including some not-so-usual options, is well worth our attention.  Maybe you've seen Fabricworm on Etsy?  Yes, that's true.  BUT, they also have a dot.com that you don't want to miss. Everything's so organized and there's just so. much. there.  I'll try my best to be your tour guide today!

For starters, Fabricworm stocks popular designers like Alexander Henry, Amy Butler, Heather Ross, Anna Maria Horner, Denyse Schmidt, Etsuko Furuya, Lizzy House, Michael Miller and Joel Dewberry.  You can shop by designer if you know what you're after.

random Fabricworm favorites
top left:  Put a Lid on It, Happy Pilgrim, Washi Extras bottom left:  Helen Summerland, Summerlove, Monsterz

These are a couple I'd add to my cart in a heartbeat.

But so often we have only a general idea, am I right?  There are lots of ways to narrow it down at Fabricworm.  Shop for

**Apparel Fabrics like cotton lawns, sateens and voiles
**Japanese Imports from Kokka and Echino
**Flannels which make such great quilt backs, available in solids too
**Linens with an awesome selection of Essex linen blends
**Solids from popular Kona colors to a huge array of Kaufman quilter's linen
**Dots the most I think I've seen in one place

I like to discover a store that stocks so many great basics because so often I need to buy that basic for my project, but I'd like to make the shipping a little more worthwhile by popping in a few prints on my wishlist whilst I'm at it.  I think you totally know what I mean!

Also of note are Fabricworm's famous custom bundles.  Cynthia's not content to only sell bundles of your favorite collections.  She also puts together her own themes, any of which might be perfect to jump start your next quilt.  I picked out...

Cool Wind Blowing for it's softly nuanced color scheme

Oh, Baby! for it's vibrant prettiness

2D Safari Navy for a rich boy palette

And, guess what?  All fabric bundles custom and otherwise are 10% off through today the 5th!

Another cool option at Fabricworm is to preview upcoming collections.  I emailed to receive notice when this collection by Ed Emberley for Cloud 9 Fabrics arrives.

Ed Emberley coming soon to Fabricworm

I'm thinking about making cotton sleeping bags for the kids so they won't swelter on our summer camping trips in poly-filled sleeping bags.  Liam enjoys Ed Emberley's drawing books, so I know a sleeping bag made in this collection would be a sure thing.  Love that dragon especially!!!

One last thing and it's a biggie - Birch Fabrics.  Cynthia Mann, the owner of Fabricworm, is also the woman behind the organic fabric company, Birch Fabrics.  So, naturally, Fabricworm stocks a huge selection of Birch (plus other organics too).  There are some totally unique prints, like the Birdie Spokes, as well as sweet takes on favorites themes like Ellie Fam.  But, my most-wanted print is actually that pretty little basic dot in the photo above.  Aren't the colors fabulous?  Yum.

One lucky winner is going to get their choice - 2 yards of a Birch Organics print.  To enter the giveaway, tell us what you're working on lately.  Winner will be drawn by random on Monday morning, April 9th.  Best of luck!

Out of all these entries, Mr. Random favors entry number 6 this morning.  Congrats to M who is sewing as well as working on her graduate degree.  I'll be in touch about your new fabric!

  36. I'm working on my very oldest project, the first thing I ever started (nearly 10 years ago). I didn't own a sewing machine then, so I hand stitched 98 nine-patch blocks, but I never got around to putting them into a proper top (a larger checkerboard). It's kind of dreary looking, all navy and off-white, and it's going to need something to make it worth looking at. (Hot pink binding? Mightn't be enough.)

But an online friend of mine the other day said she couldn't imagine making anything as difficult as the things I make (she doesn't quilt, but does a lot of crochet and other crafty things) and I was trying to explain how nobody starts with the hard stuff, it's all a building up of knowledge, and it reminded me of that old first unfinished project. So now I'm determined to finished it, finally.
