Please welcome, Tammy Vasser of Marmalade Fabrics, my guest this month.
Because we HEART fabric.
Yoshiko Jinzenji is an internationally known weaver, dyer, fabric artist, teacher and quilter. I think she’s most well known for her beautiful minimalist quilts. She’s inspired quilters from all over the world to embrace a minimalist style of quilting.
Even though the motifs are simple, they’re sophisticated and contemporary as well. I just love Lotta’s fresh palette of colors - neutral greys, orange, teal, gold, pink and navy.
My creative engines are running in high gear thinking about all the ways I want to use this fabric. Oh, the possibilities! Echo is expected to arrive in early November, and I can’t wait!
Because we HEART fabric.
It’s nearly October, one of my favorite months of the year. Here in Kansas, the days are cool but usually sunny and the nights are crisp and chilly. Not only do I look forward to baking fresh-picked apple pie, carving pumpkins with my children and sipping hot cocoa by the campfire, but something that has nothing to do with food. My favorite thing about October is receiving all the new fabric that I’ve waited for all summer long!
I’m so excited about the new collections coming your way. I can definitely see a trend toward more urban and contemporary designs, large prints and fresh organic color palettes. But if that’s not your thing, no worries, there’s plenty of beautiful classic prints available, too. Here’s a little preview of three of my favorite collections arriving soon at Marmalade Fabrics!
First, I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that Yoshiko Jinzenji’s collection for Yuwa Fabrics is scheduled to arrive at Marmalade Fabrics on Wednesday. In fact, there’s a truck somewhere between California and Kansas hauling her fabric as we speak.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for Yoshiko Jinzenji’s line to arrive since I saw samples at the Spring Quilt Market this past May. There I was first exposed to her most recent book, Quilting Line and Color: Techniques and Designs for Abstract Quilts
. Wow! If you’re looking for fresh, contemporary inspiration, this book is for you. It was truly enlightening to see her work and get an inside look at her innovative artistry.
I know you’ll want to see this next collection. Who doesn’t love Amy Butler’s classic style?
Lark was inspired by the 1950‘s fashionista model and style icon Maxime de la Falaise. I'm drawn in by the rich colors and large bold prints.
There’s no doubt that this collection will be an instant success. Lark is schedule to arrive at Marmalade Fabrics sometime in October.
Last, but not least, I’m so excited to showcase Echo by Lotta Jansdotter. There’s really only two words needed to describe it - Urban Modern.
Even though the motifs are simple, they’re sophisticated and contemporary as well. I just love Lotta’s fresh palette of colors - neutral greys, orange, teal, gold, pink and navy.

If you would like to take a closer look at the diverse collection of fabric currently in-stock including 140+ Kona Cotton Solids, come and visit me at Marmalade Fabrics. There’s no dress code, you don’t have to leave your husband in the car and you can stay as long as you want. Cheers!

Oooo that is one lovely bundle!
ReplyDeleteWhat do I look for in buying fabric online... hrm... comes down to 3 main things I think:
1. Selection
2. Price
3. Shipping cost
I try to find a store with the best combination of the above 3 and stick to them like glue :)
When buying fabric online, honestly the first thing I check is whether they ship to Canada for a reasonable price! Other than that, I'm pretty easy to please because I love most of the fabric that I see online!
ReplyDeleteBuying fabric online I look for a combination of best price and reasonable shipping to Canada.
ReplyDeleteI love buying online - no dragging little boys to wait forever at the cut counter! The most important thing is the total price.
ReplyDeleteShipping cost is important, but I also want to see great selection and know that what I order will arrive quickly and look as beautiful in person as it was on line.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway opportunity!
caribousmom (at) gmail (dot) com
There are so many different things I look for. One of the most important is whether they sell smaller cuts. When quilting I use a lot of fat quarters, and I hate having to buy a whole yard of the fabric. I also look for selection and price. And how close to me they are located - after I order fabric I want it right away!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say selection. If a store has more than one of the fabrics I am looking for than I will be more apt to buy from them. 2nd thing is shipping costs :)
ReplyDeleteConvenience is my number onetughetu reason... we don't have any decent fabric shops close and the selections are endless online!
ReplyDeletebesides cost and selection, I look for clear and relatively color-accurate photographs..nothing is worse than receiving something not quite the colors you were expecting!
ReplyDeleteI buy most of my fabric on line. There are many great sellers, so I usually browse around until I have just what a want, for a good price and reasonable shipping cost.
ReplyDeleteI think the first I look at is the cost. For me I need to consider cost of the items, this includes shipping costs. I know that in most cases I won't pay sales tax but I will have to pay shipping.
ReplyDeleteI love Citron Grey!!! I actually just ordered some online the other day but was sad that they were out of a few of the prints I really wanted. So that is probably the first important thing 1 - Selection. I don't want to have to buy from 3 different stores to find what I need for one quilt :) 2 - Price. Of course right, who isn't going to take price into account. 3 - Lastly, customer service is important to me. I like to know that my fabric will arrive timely, that it will be cut nicely (I once ordered online and it look like they cut the fabric with their eyes shut) and that if I have any issues there will be someone there to help me through them :)
ReplyDeleteI look for shipping cost and shipping times as well as the cost of the fabric itself. I'm more likely to buy if I can get free shipping somehow!
ReplyDeleteI've never bought fabric online because I'm afraid the picture doesn't truly represent the color and quality of the fabric in real life. Shipping price is a consideration, too. I almost bought fabric from one sight, but changed my mind when I saw the shipping price -- cost more than the fabric I was buying! No thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing is low shipping cost. I also tend to frequent shops that offer quantity discounts on fabric, allow you to choose the size cuts you want, and don't require a million mouse clicks to get around and select what you want.
ReplyDeleteHmm... the two most important things for me are a good selection of fat quarters and reasonable shipping to Canada.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this giveaway, the colors are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI look for two things, accurate photos and price. I love the convenience of online shopping and looking forward to fun things being delivered to me!!
As I'm in the UK when purchasing from overseas shipping is crucial. It's nice to have some flexibility with the pricing rather than a flat rate per item that could mean for smaller cuts the postage on the whole order is more expensive than the items. My favourite Etsy fabric sellers are the one that automatically refund postage overs. If you order a lot of fat quarters the individual postage multiplied often gets far larger than the actual cost so to get that extra back is always a bonus!
ReplyDeleteI like bundles of whole ranges but also like to be able to buy prints individually. I'm not so keen on store put together bundles.
Beautiful bundle! I just love that color combo. Hmm, what do I look for? Well, price is definitely a factor, but I also appreciate a shop owner that will throw in a little scrap extra, or even a little note. It's nice to feel appreciated as a customer, and little things like that stick out in my mind. I also love when shops have bundles assembled like this one. Sometimes, it's just what I'm looking for!
ReplyDeleteoh my, that is lovely fabric! When I purchase online, first off, I have to love it! Then of course, price matters, and how quickly it will ship matters alot to me.
ReplyDeleteI look at whether they have the fabric I'm looking for, price (a good sale section is attractive), and shipping costs. I'm a repeat customer when the package comes fast and the shop owners are friendly!
ReplyDeletesuch pretty fabric! for me it is selection first of all and then of course price. when buying online, the ability to browse, save and compare fabric choices in an easy way is also important.
ReplyDeleteReasonable shipping costs!!! Also - I really appreciate it when my fabric is packaged carefully :) Thanks for the giveaway!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent customer service and a good selection are the most important features to me. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhen looking online I will probably purchase if I can easily get around the site (love big pages of all the fabrics and not being forced down to one designer or color) and a nice big picture of the print. Tiny pictures just don't cut it. These lines are just stunning and I love the photo with the fabric on the wall. Too cool!!!
ReplyDeleteprice is obviously the first thing and shipping... definitely shipping. i love buying from shops that give a little something extra also. i bought from pink chalk a while ago and there was a hand written thank you and a free pattern. i have bought from them many times because of that.
ReplyDeleteLove this bundle of fabric!
ReplyDeletePrice and shipping costs are very important to me when I'm shopping online, but it's also important for me to be able to navigate the online shop and find what I'm looking for easily.
I usually already know what I want but isn't available at my LQS, so I'm looking for fast shipping and comparable pricing. Thanks for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm always on the lookout for a good sale, low shipping costs, and great selection!
ReplyDeleteWhen buying fabric online, I look first for a line I want to buy, then I will browse other interesting fabrics, and lastly choose to buy based on price and shipping cost. there's nothing like free shipping to get me to click "purchase!"
ReplyDeleteprice is certainly the main driver. there tend to be certain shops that consistently have lower prices than others with great customer service, so i try to be loyal to those shops first. then, if they don't have when i'm looking to buy, i look elsewhere for a good price.
ReplyDeleteI mainly look at shipping cost and also the basic cost of the fabric. I also think it's great when there's some readily available customer service.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
Honestly, the first thing I look at is price. I only have so much money to spend on fabric, and I want to spread it as far as I can. That said, I like to shop in stores that give me options such as bundles (both from the manufacturer and coordinating color bundles the store has put together), pre-cuts, and sale areas. Sometimes I look for something specific, and sometimes I want the store to inspire me. I've been known to impulsively buy a cute bundle based on a cool color scheme just because...if the price is right!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous Bundle! I love the colors. I look at the print first, then the color (I love all colors), I make sure it's a fabric made of only natural fibers, and then if the price is right I have to have it! I also prefer to stash half yd cuts. I love when fabric shops offer 1/2 yd bundles!
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great giveaway!!!
I look at overall price of the fabric first (base + shipping), and I also consider the selection! I usually compare several online retailers before deciding where to buy a fabric I have in mind.
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness, What wonderful eye candy for a Monday. When buying online I look for the fabric I want, then search for the best prices and shipping costs!
ReplyDeleteI have learned the hard way to always check for either a BBB rating or tons of great ratings from my peers. -Got scammed out of two yards of amazing fabric about a year ago. What a pain!
ReplyDeleteOtherwise I'll look for selection (the fabrics I'm looking for at the moment. the shop doesn't necessarily need to have a huge inventory) Then pricing, and shipping costs too.
First, I look to see how well I can view each fabric. When I order, promptness and the care in folding and packaging is important. I love the way you present fabric...hope to place my first order soon!
ReplyDeleteMy point of view is that if I'm going to pay for shipping then I like to buy multiple things to save on combined shipping cost, so a great selection is a must. I also like using coupons and discount codes, so if I have a code I normally try to purchase my fabric from that shop. Also, of buying a bundle I like to be able to see exactly what the fabrics look like together, usually either by collage or by having them photographed together.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric has got to grab me first. Meaning there needs to be a good, clear picture of it. Also, the design needs to grab me. Then I look at price. And if the price is good I look at shipping cost. If I have to pay more to ship it then the actual fabric I'll walk away. Above all else, I love great customer service!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many factors to consider, but I'd say selection is probably top of my list. I know I'm going to have to pay shipping (almost) no matter what, so I'd rather just pay it once and get everything I need. Also, I'm really big on customer service, and if I've had a great experience, I'm definitely likely to come back.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
I am in love with the fabrics! What i look for:
ReplyDeletei rarely pay full price for anything. But im also a newer quilter so when i do make fabric purchases online I am looking for something versatile that will blend with other things.
The most important thing to me is how I can search for fabric when I'm shopping online. I love when I can search by color. Next most important is overall price (yardage + shipping).
ReplyDeleteI think the most important things when ordering online is consistently good selection and fast reasonable shipping. I'm used to paying designer prices for fabric, what really keeps me coming back to an online shop is definitely the selection and service.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bundle of fabric...this goes with the paint we used in my daughters room this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI look for selection, speedy shipping and cost.
Last night was my first online purchase of fabric- vintage sheet fat quarters. I did so to help round out my collection and to save my toddler from having to do the Thrift Store Shuffle with me.
ReplyDeleteDoes that answer the question?

Once I find the fabric I want to buy I will shop around for the best shipping cost, international shipping usually.
ReplyDeleteI look for cost of the fabric and cost to ship! I tend to stick with shops that I know ship quickly and inexpensively.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I first look at cost for both the fabric and the shipping. If it's a better price than I can get in town, then I will order online. If it's a fabric that I can't buy in a store, then I will shop around for a good price.
ReplyDeleteI always look for a decent shipping price !
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance, the fabric is gorgeous !
First thing is the shipping costs to Canada. Then how easy is the website to navigate. Then can you actually see more then an inch of the fabric.
ReplyDeleteWhen I purchase fabric online, I typically am looking for something specific, so selection is probably the biggest factor. But, I always end up buying way more than I intended! I am a sucker for good deals!
ReplyDeleteMost important thing for me is total price - fabric plus shipping.
ReplyDeleteIt's as simple as buying what I like. Then I have to go and buy more fabrics to go with it because I never seem to have fabrics in my stash to go with it.
ReplyDeleteFor me, most important is over all cost-fabric cost and shipping. Of course, once I find a good deal, I'm always tempted to buy more so a wide selection is great.
ReplyDeleteSelection, because I usually want to order enough fabric to make the most of shipping! Shipping, I want it to be reasonable and quick.
ReplyDeletePrice - I like a bargain, but if I can't get it locally I will pay what it's worth!
I really go by price, including shipping. There seems to be quite a range of price/yd and if I'm going to pay for priority mail, I want that flat rate envelope as full as possible so I usually buy about 4-6 yds at a time.
ReplyDeleteI love to be able to find things in FQs or FQ bundles. It's hard to find a LQS that will cut FQs, and they are so handy!
ReplyDeleteWhen I am buying fabric online I always check reviews of the people who have bought fabric before from that particular shop.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!!
Wow, I love these fabrics!
ReplyDeleteFor me, it depends on the shipping price.
Shipping cost, great fabrics, and cut size - Free shipping over a certain $ will almost always get me there. Flat shipping rate is next - because I just know what I'm in for - not a surprise at the end. I love when owners make bundles from different lines, as I would do in a store.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have anything new to add. Selection is important because if you don't have what I "need" then customer service and shipping (cost) don't matter. Clear pictures are important. I just don't have many options near me so I have started to shop more online. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI always check to see if there are reviews. I want to know if the color is accurate, and the quality (tightness of weave) is good. Oh, and it's got to be cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the UK so shipping costs is probably the most important for me!
ReplyDeleteim looking for a good selection to get the most out of my shipping costs...and looking for a value.
ReplyDeleteLove this! Let's see, for me, it is all about falling in love with the print. I want to feel confident that I am going to love it in person. It can hard when you can't hold it in your hand. But some things you just know when you see it. Not the easiest thing to explain, right?
ReplyDeleteI like detailed photos with the ruler along the bottom for seeing the design size better.
ReplyDeletePrice. That's pretty much my number one deciding factor once I find a place that carries the line I want.
ReplyDeleteSuch a generous giveaway! Thanks for the chance! To be totally honest price is alway the most important thing--hands down. Next would be if I need a few different prints, I love when I can get it all at one place.
ReplyDeleteTammy is so great - she totally helped me out with a shipping issue - above and beyond!
ReplyDeletePrice is always first on my list, but if I'm buying multiple fabrics, and the store that has all I'm looking for has higher prices, I'll usually go for that instead of multiple purchases from multiple stores, so selection is important too. And definitely shipping costs! No good getting a good deal on fabric if it costs a fortune to get it sent to me!
Thanks for the great giveaway! And I can't WAIT for November and the arrival of Echo!! YUM!
I have to say price (including shipping) is one of the most important factors. I like to purchase from small shops as much as I can. Living in the countryside, almost all of my fabric purchases are online.
ReplyDeletei look for selection, special deals/sales/coupons, excellent customer service. And natural light photos- not just the "factory" shots. Shopping online is great!
ReplyDeleteI'm not reading any other comments so not to be swayed.
ReplyDeleteI buy ALL my fabric online, so I guess I must have an opinion.
What I use a lot is the Quiltshops search engine. I see a fabric I like, I plug it in there and check out all the shops that sell it online. I find some wonderful sales that way.
In fact, that sounds like the most important to me is price, including shipping prices.
I just LOVE this Color Story bundle, btw.
Oh, so many lovely fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't like to shop online for fabrics. I really need to feel them! That said, I love it when online shops send you swatches, and I love when their fabrics have a good natural fiber content and the prints/colors are coordinated... I know one shop here in Germany that sends out fabric catalogues each season that have their newest fabric swatches in them!
For online shopping.. I gravitate towards shops with low shipping and good selection. I realize that a slightly higher price per yard basically covers shipping, but somehow, my mind doesn't accept the idea of paying for shipping... that's a half-yard of fabric I could buy! Overall price is ideally low, of course!Shops that never have coupons make me sad.
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for the Jansdotter line to come out - I agree, so lovely! When I buy fabric online, of course, price is a huge factor but after that I'd have to say fast shipping and personal customer service gets my loyality. If I'm trying a new place and it arrives at my doorstep quickly, I'm likely to go back again. And thanks for the generous giveaway - what gorgeious fabric!
ReplyDeleteShipping is pretty important. I also really like to have different options for cuts of fabric - I like being able to order FQs and yardage in something other than half-yard increments.
ReplyDeleteI would say a combination of shipping costs (I live in Canada) as well as accurate descriptions and quality of photos. As far as quality of photos, scale is important so photos of finished items using those fabrics or a small object in the photos (a coin, or a hand) to give a good idea of scale usually work well. What a super generous give away - thanks!
ReplyDeleteOoh thanks for the heads up on Lotta's line - it is beyond fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it, but I think it really does come down to price for me. If I can't find it in a store that's one thing, but if I think I may be able to, even with a little (or a long) drive, I try to calculate which would be less, even with the factor of gas prices, and then of course, if it's similar between the two, I'd rather go see it in person, just to be sure. :/ Sorry, that's probably not all that helpful.
ellen [at] everydayartbyeda [dot] com
it would have to be price! i also value a good selection and free shipping! thanks for the chance to win! i cannot wait for lotta's line~
ReplyDeleteWhen buying fabric online, the most important thing for me is price. That includes what is charged for shipping. I recently graduated from college and every penny counts!
ReplyDeleteIf I can't find the fabric I want at an online shop I've already had a good experience with, I check out sponsors of blogs I read and see who has some other fabric I like too. If I'm shipping fabric, I might as well by a little bundle! So selection, competitive prices & reasonable shipping. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe price is important, for sure, but I have to make sure it's the EXACT fabric I'm looking for to be worth the shipping and such. It's harder to match colors and patterns (most of the time) through online shopping, but when you find that absolutely stunningly fabric that fits perfectly in your design, it makes online shopping SO worth it!
ReplyDeleteI look for quality and variety, and of course, cost, including shipping. My favorite of our local fabric shop is closing down (my wallet might be happier though, since it's right around the corner from my new apartment), and so I'm limited to the chain stores, and the regional craft emporium, which stocks better fabric than say, JoAnn's, but most of it is too cutesy/baby or too "country" for my tastes...the hazard of living in a rural area, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteWhat’s the most important thing you look for when purchasing fabric online?
ReplyDeleteTrue colours and true representation of the fabric. It really helps to see items made with the fabric so I have a reference on the size of the print.
There was one time where I was disappointed with the lack of saturation in the colour, it looked more vibrant online than it actually was in person.
bendingpins(at)gmail(dot)com
I purchase fabric based on price, then color and pattern of the fabric. If it doesn't go with what I've got, or belong to a specific pattern, it shouldn't come home with me!
ReplyDeleteThe cost of the product is usually the first thing - which I include shipping price with then where the shop is located. I'm a bargain shopper. So if I can find a bundle of fabrics for less I usually do that.
ReplyDeleteI'd love, love, LOVE this bundle. I buy based on selection, price and reasonable shipping rates.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway! I look for quality and price when shopping online for fabric.
ReplyDeleteI look for:
ReplyDelete1. Cost (including shipping)
2. The size of the print (small/large)
3. Color - what does it look like in natural light, or compared to another fabric in the collection, or maybe seeing it paired with a solid.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I love a package deal- a set of fabrics at a reasonable price with good shipping costs. ;) what a fun giveaway! :) Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe main reason I shop online is for the selection. Once I find what I want I love a discount or free shipping! Thanks for the gorgeous giveaway- love those colors.
ReplyDeleteIf i'm planning a quilt I look for a bundle of about 8 fat quarters in my chosen colour combination that I can add to with a few basic stash fabrics, hopefully coming up with a fantastic palette for a quilt. I live in hope!!!
ReplyDeleteI look for reasonable shipping charges . . . if I'm only buying a yard or two, $5 or $6 shipping makes that fabric really expensive. But free or cheap shipping means nothing if it doesn't leave your store within a day or two. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteThe things I look for most for online shopping are the fabric company, the price and the shipping.
ReplyDeleteIt's important for me to know that the fabric is available in the amounts I'm ordering, especially when getting coordinates.
ReplyDeleteFor me,, it's total expense (price per yard, shipping, tax). Quality is a given b/c I know what I want when I go looking. I want someone reputable but that's never been a problem thus far - unlike other things you can buy on line. Great question and great fabric!
ReplyDeleteThanks, jan
The most important thing I look for is a large range of things I like, especially if I'm importing - I may as well make the postage costs worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win :o)
i look for orange, price and shipping. but mostly orange :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I look for fabric online first I want easy browsing with different search options... color, designer, pattern type, price etc., then price and shipping costs.
ReplyDeleteLove the Citron & Gray... thanks for a chance to win!
Kat {wtrstone at aol dot com}
I look at the variety/selection of good fabrics. Shipping always plays into it too and love good pictures that are true to the colors of the fabrics. thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt's probably a toss up between price and selection. I like to try to get everything in one place so I only have to pay for shipping once.
ReplyDeleteI always look for a few things:
ReplyDelete1- Shipping
2- Good Reviews on Quality
3- Brands that they carry
4- Most of all: SALES!!
If a shop has poor reviews on quality of fabric, that's usually a huge stop sign for me.
Also, I usually am a repeat customer with a shop I like, even if their prices are a few dollars more.
The most important thing I look for is price - with a hubby in graduate school and a house that we're still not done remodeling, EVERYTHING in our lives comes down to price!
ReplyDeleteWell, I live in the UK, so I mainly look for price & shipping in equal measures. It's great if a shop has a great price, but if the shipping is high, I always pass.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I look for is Price, followed by Shipping charges. And I usually look for complementary fabric bundles.
ReplyDeleteI look for unique fabrics that I cant find at any of my local shops. The cool thing about the Internet is that any fabric is within reach!
ReplyDeleteshipping cost and price of fabric--I think they go hand in hand, but for me if the fabric is cheaper and the shipping is reasonable it's a sale. Otherwise i keep looking... thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteFor me the number one thing is the total price including shipping. If the fabric is a great price but shipping is high, it's still not a great deal.
ReplyDeleteI have not done too muuch fabric shopping on-line because I love to see the colors in person and feel the fabric. I appreciate when there are suggested fabric bundles that blend well together even if they are not from the same line.. Price and shipping are always a consideration.
ReplyDeleteI do 99% of my fabric shopping online as I have no modern LQS. I usually start with a fabric in mind and do a massive Google search to find the best 1) Price and 2) Shipping.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am just searching with no specific fabric in mind I frequent for stores that have custom bundles that they pick out themselves. After all, they can see the fabric in person and know it matches so it makes my buying coordinating fabric much easier!
The most important thing I look for when buying fabric online is affordable shipping to Canada :)
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the price and shipping!
ReplyDeletePrice to be honest. Selection is great but if I can find it elsewhere for less, I'll go.
ReplyDeleteThe most important things I look for are selection and the price (that includes shipping). But I admit, if I find something online that I can't get around here, that I LOVE, I'll buy it! :)
ReplyDeleteUsually I look for a good deal on a collection I already know I love. I also try to buy all of my fabric for one project from the same shop at once so that I am not paying lots of extra shipping fees. I also have a few shops that I always come back to because I like the people who own them and they always have good customer service.
ReplyDeleteThey are so lovely!
ReplyDeleteEven though price is important to me, because I live in Australia and buy from the States, postage can be expensive, so range ends up winning, so I can get everything I'm after in one bundle.
I just bought my first fabric on-line this weekend. I have been scared to buy it because i am very tactile and want to touch it and feel it. But, I held my breathe and jumped in. The price was a big consideration for me-and the shipping.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm familiar with the specific fabric/print, price and shipping cost/time are important (I will choose a vendor I know ships quickly over one who dawdles or doesn't provide a tracking number).
ReplyDeleteMOST important, though, are good images of the print, and accurate colors. If it's a large print, don't just show me a 4" square. And for pete's sake PLEASE include a ruler in the shot. If I can't tell if that pattern repeat is 4" or 18", I'm not going to order it.
Ok, you caught me. I haven't bought fabric online yet. But I fully intend to read these comments above and learn and try it out real soon. Thanks for the great question, it is so helpful!! And that Citron and Gray collection is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI do look for great pricing on the fabric & the shipping. FREE SHIPPING when a certain level is reached is even better.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I really appreciate is being able to look at the fabric up close and to have an idea of the scale of the print.
The most important thing that I look for when ordering fabric online is a good representation of scale and accurate colors. I also really like it when an image is available of all the prints included in a fat quarter bundle or charm pack. Super helpful!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I always look for a good shipping price, being from Canada those shipping costs can sure add up and I also look for a great base price.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for an opportunity to win some great fabric.
My email: dmpenn@telus.net
The most important thing I look for is good pictures! I rarely get to "real" fabric shops, so I want big, clear pictures that show the print well and in true colors. Also, I can't buy from stores that don't spell-check, or use quotes & apostrophes incorrectly. It just drives me crazy! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the generous giveaway!
What a fabulous bundle!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely comes down to price, shipping cost and of course, selection!! I try to only order when I need to replenish stock, then the shipping cost is validated for my other "surprise" goodies that end up in my cart :)
Beautiful fabric!
ReplyDeleteI think shipping costs are most important for me. Selection is important too because I can order more and make get more for my shipping charges.
Thanks!
Uniqueness and cost.
ReplyDeletegood selection and reasonable shipping charges.
ReplyDeleteShipping Cost is #1 as I'm from Canada. Second are Price of fabrics and third is ease of use of the website.
ReplyDeleteI like a place where I can easily look by designer, color, and collection. I like collections put together to buy as a group. Thanks for the giveaway. Kathie L in Allentown
ReplyDeleteA good website that allows you to browse the fabrics without going back to the homepage is the first thing! I have never yet ordered fabric online (although I have looked a lot), because, apart form the shipping cost (#2), I need to get a feel for the texture of the fabric, the grain and weave. Some website have close-ups which are quite helpful I think.
ReplyDeleteEase of ordering and browsing through the fabrics is a must. Also a wide range and beautiful patterns in quality fabrics.
ReplyDeletei always check the international shipping rates and that delivery is by USPS.
ReplyDeleteI love buying fabric online! I usually look first at the fabric cost, and then shipping costs. I love when I can get free shipping! :)
ReplyDeleteI've bought from Marmalade fabrics and was very happy with every aspect of the purchase!!
ReplyDeleteI look for selection, then shipping costs to canada, then price.
thank you!

Price, selection, and shipping costs are the most important things to me! I love buying fabric online!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful fabrics! I love the green and gray combo!!
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I look for is if the fabric comes in a fq bundle or not. Then I look at the price.
When I shop online I am usually looking for something I can't get at the local quilt shop. Also to be honest, price. Everyone loves a good bargain.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I've never bought fabric online. I like to feel the fabric and know what I'm getting into. Though if I found one that I wanted more of and could get it cheaper online, I'd do that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this wonderful giveaway!
Cheers.
I love free shipping, but my main requirement is style. The fabric color and print, if I'm looking for a print, has to speak to me or fit into a project I already have in mind.
ReplyDeleteI look for good images of the fabric, so I can see what I'm ordering. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous fabrics! I love this mix, so thanks for the opportunity to win some of it.
ReplyDeleteOnline shopping, I look for ...
1. Price
2. Shipping costs (I'm in Canada)
3. Ease of navigating the website. If the website is at all frustrating to use, I pretty much don't revisit. I use the internet a lot for work and am spoiled by using efficient website and have little patience for poorly designed ones.
4. Selection
5. Personal warmth I feel towards the sellers. If they have blogs to follow and they're the kind of blogs that are both useful and well done and make me feel like I have a personal relationship with the shop owners, I will feel some allegiance and will want to give them some business.
6. I also like a website that provides good photos and descriptions of the fabric and suggests other coordinating fabrics in stock even if not in the same fabric line. Instead of a menu of text only fabric lines to select from in a drop down menu, I much prefer an image that shows fabrics from the line. It saves a lot of clicks.
Basically price and shipping.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
Definitely shipping price initially, as I'm in Australia and buy most of my fabric from the united states. But great customer service and brilliant fabric run a close second :)
ReplyDeleteI look for fabrics that I cannot buy locally, specifically designer fabrics from Butler, Dewberry, Henry, etc. The only fabric shop around here is a chain store that does not carry ANY of the cool stuff!
ReplyDeleteThe cost of shipping to Canada is important, and will often be the reason I shop around.

Well, I don't have the fattest bank account, so I would be lying if I said price (including shipping costs) wasn't an issue. I tend to gravitate towards sites that have nice, big, well-photographed pictures of the fabric to really give me a good idea of the color and texture of the fabric.
ReplyDeletesale price and reasonable shipping!
ReplyDeleteI look for seller with a good reputation.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this fabric! I mostly look for a good price and a modern style. I *hope* that the image on my screen does the color justice if I have a project in mind. A few times I have been disappointed that my selections did not coordinate as well as I had thought... oh well, I have saved them for other projects in the future. Large, zoom-able photos are a MUST.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win!
I really like touching fabric so when I shop online I stick with the 'name-brands' I know. I feel safe knowing the quality is usually the same at all times. Price would be the second qualifier for shopping online.
ReplyDeleteLove this collection! Price and free or very low shipping are what I look for.
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for asking!!!! I look for selection, price and equally important, flexibility - read: a seller who offers fat quarters as well as odd cuts (2/3, 3 and 1/8, etc.). Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteShopping in my jammies!!! I also love being able to take my time to ponder, search for ideas and return at a convenient time for me!
ReplyDeleteSelection- I tend to stick with shops that carry a variety of fabrics.
ReplyDeletePrice- competitive prices, good bundles, and especially good shipping rates.
Bundles- I'll just make this it's own bullet point. I love when stores bundle fabrics from different lines or fabrics and coordinating solids. It makes the store stand out to me.
Price is definitely a major factor. I also like the option of buying different cuts.
ReplyDeleteLove this fabric! The most important things I look for are price and shipping costs.
ReplyDeleteI try to keep pretty up on new fabric lines that come out. I tend to look for vendors that take existing collections and add a few solids or co-ordinates with them. Price point is also extremely important as well as reasonable shipping. I recently found some fabric I wanted, but only needed one yard. The seller had flat-rate shipping - even for only one yard. So that was a deal breaker for me.
ReplyDeleteThe answer depends a bit on the reason I am shopping. If I have a specific project in mind, selection is most important because I don't want to buy from 3 different places. If it's general stash building I go for the best deal!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with many others who answered.....selection and shipping. I have selected and cancelled many orders when the shipping fee was tallied. Liz
ReplyDeleteces2147@verizon.net
Coming from Australia, the price comparison is dramatic. Even with the shipping charges, buying fabric online is extremely economical.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest thing I look for as a result, is recommendations about fabric quality. If it is something that is easily sourced in Australia (eg Moda), then I can have the opportunity to sample the 'feel' prior to purchasing. If it is a designer or fabric that I am not familiar with, I look for recomendations from quilting groups, trusted blogs who evaluate rather than advertise, and friends who have made previous purchases.
I'd have to say: service, selection, and price. There is a huge fabric store online that sends shipments stuffed into an envelope with an impersonal packing slip and if I can, I avoid them and go with the places that send the fabric wrapped with love and care. Even if it costs $.50 more a yard. It's just more fun.
ReplyDeleteGood selection of course, and price. But what sways me most is good customer service and good communication. You provide both of those in awesome amounts!
ReplyDeleteFirst is quality. Has to be tops. Second is pattern, followed closely by color. It has to speak to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway, thanks for the opportunity!
Selection, I look for things my lqs doesn't carry. I have to admit pricing and shipping are concerns as well as others have stated. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteShipping is my number one. Followed by selection, good photos, and service. In fact, there is one particular online store that I ALWAYS check first before going anywhere else. If they don't have what I'm looking for, I'll reluctantly look elsewhere. Great giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteI look for value, but am VERY leery of quality. If I buy crap once, I will never trust the source again. I also look for decent shipping.
ReplyDeleteAnd this stuff is beautiful!
First thing I look for in any fabric is colour! Colour brightness and saturation are very important to my eye, and pattern and design - and even if I have anything matching it in my stash - come secondary.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely giveaway! *crosses fingers*
If I know what I want already, it's price and shipping costs. If not, it's selection. I don't want to order just one fabric online. It's going to be a few things at once unless it's a bigger item like a fat quarter pack or big yardage. Shipping costs can be a deal breaker!
ReplyDeleteSelection...of fabric lines, bundles
ReplyDeleteShipping costs
Ease of navigation of website. I won't order from a site that is a maze of confusion or has swatches so small that I need a magnifying glass.
I am adding a 4th issue (I know you asked for only 3....sorry! Some of the ladies only had two issues so I'm making up for that.... lol). The 4th is length of time it takes for me to receive my order. I think that 7 days is quite sufficient to get it from online store to my door. And not business days...weekends included. I know it takes longer during the holidays and that is fine I take that into
consideration and order accordingly.
Thanks for asking!
There is a variety of different things I look for in a online fabric shop, from the selection, to the price, and also really importantly, shipping policy/cost (to Canada). Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI look for fabric that I like at a price that I like.
ReplyDeleteIf there's something I want in particular, I find where it is available. Then I compare price/shipping cost.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance, those are lovely fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on Google reader.
Two things stand out:
1. Intuitive searching by pattern, stock, color, price.
2. Shop created bundles
I am always looking for interesting color combinations. I'm not very good at choosing them but I like to challenge myself in putting fabrics together. I'm not always successful.
ReplyDeleteBecause I live in Australia, I usually check that they do ship to here and that the postage costs are reasonable as sometimes it can be more then the fabric!
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing for me to look at when I am shopping for fabric online is to buy a line I can't find in a brick and mortar store close by. I usually try to buy something recommended by a blogger whose opinion I trust which does not mean any and all bloggers. I also like to buy extended lines that may have multiple colorways. I quite often don't buy for myself, but allow my husband and children to choose for me.
ReplyDeleteI would say price (including shipping). I also check to see if the store carries organic fabrics, because while I can't often afford organics, I like supporting shops that make it a priority to carry them. This is how I came to Marmalade!
ReplyDeleteOhhh! I love those fabrics from Michael Miller. I already have Zoology in Black in my stash. Those would look lovely with it. When shopping online, I look for good photos. So, I don't have a surprise with the fabric colors when it arrives at my door. Also, not too high shipping prices because I live in Canada.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I look for the best price, because why pay more for the exact same product? I also look for fabric bundles in fat quarters or half yards. I love fabric collection bundles and custom coordinated bundles, because I'm just not talented enough to put together my own fabric selections for quilts yet. :) When it comes down to it, I guess I value pre-made bundles over price... I'll pay a little more for the convenience of buying a fabric collection bundle rather than having to track down a fat quarter or half yard of each print at a lower price. Whew, that was long-winded! Sorry! :)
ReplyDeleteI go for color and especially if there's a collection that I can have it already coordinated. I'm not the best at coordinating fabrics.

Shipping cost to canada and bundles of one yard of collections
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors! Cost is definitely a factor, along with shipping charges. I look for unique fabrics, and ones I haven't been able to find anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting question. Usually I need to have internet is #1 issue when I buy fabric online. #2 is price/yard and is it worth the shipping costs. Sometimes I'll look at fabric in person and do a price comparison online to make sure I'm getting a good deal. Fabric is $11/yard now and I don't see splurging much in my future.
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing I look for is selection. Price comes in second, but since I am in Canada, and try to place my orders at one shop, in a quantity that fills the flat price shipping, I want to shop at one site for all the fabrics I am currently obsessing over!
ReplyDeletePrice, shipping, and selection. If a seller has all three going for it I'll buy. For the most part I've been very happy with my on-line purchases.
ReplyDeleteOh that's easy - it has to be something I can't live without! After that, it's the total price, including shipping and exchange.
ReplyDeleteI look for an online store that allows me to search in a variety of ways: by color, designer, style, etc. I want to shop in a organized and well designed site. I find I prefer stores with a focus (modern, organic, batik, etc) rather than a monster big store.
ReplyDeletei look at the price and shipping cost first
ReplyDeletePrice, selection and low shipping costs are what I look for.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics!
ReplyDeleteFor me, shopping online is much preferred over in person because I don't have to drag the little ones with! I look for shops that carry a wide range of fabrics ... good selection of solids as well as trendy printed collections, overall cost and shipping time.
Of course a good selection of modern fabrics at a good price, reasonable shipping to Australia and the ability to buy smaller cuts. I like to be able to search under designer and colour and If I look at the detailed picture of the fabric it's often really handy to have some idea of
ReplyDeletethe fabric's scale too.
First things I look for when shopping online is definitely shipping cost, my favorite designers, and if the print "speaks" to me (not necessarily in that order).
ReplyDeletedo they have what I want at the amount I want. price. how much is shipping.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing such a great bundle :)
-annabelle
i'm trying my luck. for me the most important thing is the colour then the prints. thanks
ReplyDeleteivyworis@yahoo.com
I guess other than the specific fabrics I want, the most important thing to me is price.
ReplyDeleteWhat do I look for when shopping for fabric online? Well, first of all I look to see if there's anything that yells my name. Then I check to see if they ship to Canada and, if so, what are the costs.
ReplyDeleteI only buy from reputable shops and I've never been disappointed yet!
I compare prices and shipping costs. Beautiful fabrics! Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteFor me, the most important thing is whether they ship for a reasonable price outside the US - am pleased to find another store that does! Thanks for introducing Marmalade Fabrics :)
ReplyDeleteOther things I look for are selection so that I can get everything I want from one place, and good quality images, so that I can see the colors and scale of the pattern on the fabric.
Shipping cost is definitely a factor, along with the store reputation and of course the quality and the variety of the selection
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I look for colour, price, and shipping cost. Love that fabric!
